"Hospitals are for sick people; pregnant women are not sick" do you not understand?<br><br>
When it's actually time, I am telling exactly three people that I plan to homebirth: husband, midwife, and the baby.<br><br>
I actually think my mother will be fine, not because she's so open-minded but because she knows that I don't do ANYTHING without researching the hell out of it.

This reminds me of why I told my mother I am due a week and a half later than I am. So by the time she comes knocking down my door with an ambulance ready the baby will likely be on its way.

A few weeks back, I attended a public hearing for a bill that will legalize the practice for Certified Professional Midwives in Alabama. One opponent (a family practice doctor) told the committee (paraphrasing) "Sure, childbirth is a completely natural thing......but so is pnuemonia, heart disease and stroke."<br><br>
See, childbirth belongs in a list of pathologies -- all of which must be managed by professionals if the patient wants to live. So what should pregnant women do? As Monty Python already knows: Nothing -- we're not qualified!!<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">
