We bought stainless steel mugs for all of us for christmas this year. They are AWESOME, but I would really like some way to personalize them, so the kids can tell which on is theirs. I thought about engraving, but that might be too expensive. And they make those bands that go around bottles, but this has a handle on the side. Maybe charms of some kind to hang from the handle? Any great ideas?

ETA: ours don't have an apple on the side.

You could use the cocktail glass charms, but I'm not sure how they would stand up to repeated washing if they were always left on, and taking them off would defeat the purpose of labeling them, unless you only care per meal or per day. I think engraving would be perfect.

Engraving would look awesome, I just don't know how much it costs. Especially around here, being a tiny tourist town. I can totally see all our names on them...

Some kind of silicone wine charm on the handle (they're stretchy and would be different colors). I've seen some before that are for cups with a teeny suction cup on them too that might work.

If you want something permanent, you could do a tiny drop of different color nail polish or something similar on the bottom (I think it would stay on and your kids might have fun finding it - being hidden and all).

That was my first thought, a wine charm. Then I thought maybe just a bracelet charm, that could be taken off for washing. I just can't decide.

I have a few plastic beads tied with monofilament (like fishing line) tied to the handle of my mug. They have been there several years now and have survived the dishwasher.

Nail polish also works well, I have camping stuff that has been labeled that way for years. I'm not so sure about a blob on the bottom though, I can see my kids turning the mug over to find the right one and spilling the contents on a regular basis :lol

You could call an engraving place (like Things Remembered if your mall has one) to get a quote. One initial per cup wouldn't cost that much.

In retrospect, that's a good point. . . I can imagine that happening here too (and am now chuckling to myself about it. . .)

4 of us will have the same initial :)

I will have to ask at jewelry stores. Tiny, tiny town here, lol.

My kids would spill it too, good thought!

Looks like Things Remembered only charges $3 per word. Oh but there's a $6 minimum per item. Not sure if that price is different if it's an outside item vs. something purchased at their store.

My other thought was having a small image engraved on each mug - something different for each person. Looks like they charge $6 for a "logo or design" though.

How do paint pens hold up in the dishwasher? Painting each person's name on the mugs might look really nice.

I also really like the idea of a wine charm type thing. Maybe get some larger jump rings for jewelry, and just add a few beads, assigning a color to each family member.
