So I am so excited that DH and I plan to TTC for our first child next year: I am 27 and have wanted kids young all along...so it feels like I have been waiting forever.

Anyways, my new dilemma is WHEN to TTC because of the climate I live in. Today was 117 degrees, the summers are miserable. Previously I thought I would TTC in May next year and deliver in February, so I wouldn't be huge and miserable in the summer.

But then a friend who just had her first in March said it's hard because it's so hot..now it's hard to work off baby weight. Another friend who had her last delivered in October and said it was perfect because she was able to walk alot and get her baby weight off quickly (winters are heaven here...60 and sunny in the day).

So my new idea is to TTC in February next year for a November baby. I would be in my second trimester in the summer, which I hear is the most comfortable.

So, I feel like I'm rambling...but any experience or insight?

I'm 29 weeks, live in Texas. It gets hot here too. My second trimester was "easier" in many ways, but it still sucks in the summer (and it wasn't even as hot as it usually gets here). I would SO much rather be trying to walk off baby weight in the summer than I would be dealing with these pregnancy hormones making me feel twice as hot in the summer! I've been miserable enough that DH and I agreed if we decide to have another baby after this one, we will TTC late in the summer so I don't have to be preggers in the heat again!

As someone who delivered in the middle of July I can attest to wanting a spring baby next. I was swollen and MISERABLE by June. I gained a LOT of water weight and was so sluggish that I couldn't even move towards the end of my pregnancy. That made it very hard for me to labor.
Babyweight is a non issue for me. I can bet on not losing a pound till at least a year into nursing. Nursing holds the weight for me. So IMO its a much better plan to be big and pregnant during a cool season and then sit in front of a fan nursing a babe during the hot season. Then when it turns cool again I'm Tae Bo'ing my ass off!

I used to live in Phx up til a year ago and I delivered in June of 2006. It was horrible. I used to love Phx up til that point, and honestly, I think being pregnant in that weather ruined it for me. I swore (if we stayed there) that I would never again experience that period of pregnancy during the summer. I also was so swollen w/ water (gained over 50 lbs, and 36 fell off in the first 3 weeks - that's how much water I was holding!) and was just miserable. I'd personally think that if you're preggo in the summer, it should be early pregnancy, and deliver in winter/spring. But that's just me! And sometimes wanting a baby takes priority and throws all that stuff out the window!

I was in S. Florida for my first. (So hot, but not as hot as you are). I got pregnant in January and had my baby in October. Being huge and pregnant over the summer was horrible and I don't want to do it again. I am now in N. Florida and TTC#2 so that I can have them next spring.
I didn't have any trouble getting rid of the baby weight at first, breastfeeding took care of that for me.

Thanks, Mamas. I am back to thinking the original time frame we decided to TTC is best. If I luck out and get pg the first try in May next year I'll just be in my first trimester in the summer...so not huge and uncomfortable. Plus DH will be more comfortable that that gives us even a few extra months to get our finances in order.

Then, I had a dream last night I was pregnant. First really vivid one I've had about it. I can't wait!

Here's some advice from an old mama who has had a loss and is trying again (and it ain't going so good).

Just do it.

You may not be able to get pregnant when you want and you cannot control other circumstances...so don't wait.

I am supposed to be huge and uncomfortable right now and would give anything to have that.
