we used to go to east hampton when i was little (probably from about 3-12 yrs.), and i remember loving a little maritime museum - the museum itself was boring but there was a boat in the backyard you could climb all over - that was great!
also, i remember liking some of the rock beaches out towards montauk.

i wish my memory was a little better - my uncle has a house in quogue, and i will be seeing him this weekend - i'll see if he has any other ideas.
