I have oversized diplomas from college (almost 10 years old now) that collect dust on our book shelf. Where do I put them? I am sick of them having their own shelf and taking up space when we have never even looked at them. There is a stack of 5, and no we don't want to hang them on the wall

My diplomas are in a drawer in our study. I've never had an urgent need for them - I faxed someone a copy once, to prove I was qualified to sign up for a grad level class, but even that was a stopgap while I got them an official transcript. For some reason, I feel like you shouldn't throw them out, but there is seriously no need for them to have an entire display shelf. Stick 'em in the bottom of a drawer someplace where you keep important and seldom-needed papers.

Gave it to my mom, along with my Emmy Awards and high school debate team medals.

of course, we don't keep anything around living on a boat, but even before boat life, I figured she'd have more use for all of that than me.

LOL! I am thinking that I'd put my Emmy's on the coffee table, kitchen counter, and bathroom shelf. That way I'd have ample opportunity to say things like, "You're looking for the what? Oh, it's next to my Emmy..."

My diplomas are on the wall. I think if I didn't want to display them I would keep them in my dresser drawer.

Our college degrees are framed, but haven't made it back on the wall in our family office, yet. (We have space for them.)

Our high school diplomas are in the leather folders they came in and sit on a shelf in the bookcase with our yearbooks. I just looked at my H.S. diploma yesterday because I am scrapbooking and wanted to know the exact date I graduated for a page I am doing.

I just had a use for my diploma from grad school. The organization I work for is reorganizing and restructuring the staff. The HR department is doing education verifications on everyone and the university I went to grad school at charges for this kind of information. So. I got a call saying I needed to either provide an original diploma or a sealed transcript. I love how the sealed transcript request conveniently put the fee onto me. Luckily, I had that stack of diplomas and was able to carry it in.

I joked with my mom at one point we should carry one around each in our purse. Those wings are pointy as swords and the base is heavy as a rock -- major self defense weapon! Just not subtle enough for those dark alleys though.

Oh and don't be impressed - they hand out Emmy's like candy canes at Christmas once you've been in the business long enough.

DH and I both have all of ours framed (I should say my one, and his 4!) We have them hung in our MB closet. The high school diplomas are in out fire box with the birth certificates, passports, marriage license, SS cards, etc.

Originals in the safe, with other important documents. Copies hung on the wall in my office. I worked and paid a ton of money for them, and I'm proud of them. I've needed to provide proof of diploma for certifications/licensing/etc, so no way will I ever shred them. Plus, if your school burns down or loses all their records somehow, you'll be screwed if you ever have to provide verification of your degree. I know that sounds remote, but it's happened to a couple of friends now, and had they not had their own records, they wouldn't have had proof of completing their MA.

BTW, you don't need to frame them all. Just choose one (maybe the biggest, or get a big matting), and stick them all in the frame with only 1 showing. Voila! Pride and containment.

Mine are in a box in the closet with my other achievement type documents. I won't get rid of it. Someday when we have an office with a wall we'll frame them.

I never actually got a copy of my diploma from my college. I think you had to pay money and officially request it, and I never did. Now my name is different anyway. I've never had any need for it. I have never seen dh's BS or MS diplomas, though we do have his diploma from law school floating around somewhere, he brought it home when he changed jobs (I think it's traditional for attorneys to display in their office).
