What to do with those cheap gerber prefolds???

495 Views 13 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Electra375
I have stacks of gerber foam insert prefold birdseye and broad cloth. I have a few of just birdseye pf w/o any foam/sponge inserts as well. They are aweful once you have used chinese cotton prefolds. Any ideas on what to do with them, I have 3 dozen. Oh some are pretty ratty from someone telling me to use bleach all the time on them 6 years ago. I have actually serged a bunch of them.
Anyway, I can't bare to throw anything away, I'm a pack rat. And I have used them in a pinch when the other dipes are all in the laundry. So, what do I do with them?

burp rags
dust cloth
cut them in half, serge and use for quick wipes for cleaning dirty toddler faces

hmm...off hand cant think of anything else, but thats what I use the ones we had for.
Swiffer pads for the foam ones... heard that they work pretty well doing that.

I use the non-foam Gerber prefolds... it's all we were given and I haven't had the money to spare on the wonderful-sounding chinese variety. *sigh* At least they work to a degree! My mom used nothing but little gerber pants and these nasty prefolds on me and my brother and we survived I guess

DH uses them to clean his paintball gun and gear. Not such a bad use for them after all!
Toss the really ratty ones & use the rest as rags. Or you could send them to someone on this thread:
Help me break my paper towel addiction! :LOL
towels
towels
towels
towels

Those are my suggestions. I LOVE to use them as towels.

we actually dyed ours and turned them into a couch quilt *lol*

The dogs can't seem to get enough of it, but DH loves to nap with it too
Use them in the kitchen instead of napkins or paper towels - you can really reduce your paper waste this way. Thats what I use them for. I wet one when Maxi is done eating and use it to wipe his face and hands.

Oh and as hankies when we have colds.
I can't believe that THESE are the dipes that we can buy at stores. I have a big pile of them too. We use them as burp cloths, dish towels, and cleaning rags.

Wouldn't the world be a better place if we could buy true chinese cotton prefolds at Wal-Mart. I know other woman who ask me how I could possible cloth diaper b/c they tried them and they just leaked so terribly they couldn't see how anyone could use them. They unfortunately will never try anything else b/c of the bad experience with what is available for purchase in stores.

Great ideas thus far, keep them coming. If I were going to have a cycle any time soon, I'd sew those babies into pads, but I don't expect my cycle back for at least another 6 months and more would be great.

I like the swiffer idea, I have hardwood floors. As for rags and such the sponge core makes that a bit bulky. I suppose I could remove the sponge core, maybe.
