What should I pack for a hospital birth?

What should I pack in the baby's diaper bag for her to come home with? What normally goes in the diaper bag for outings?

Can ya tell I'm a FTM

You might ask the hospital if they have a list of suggested items to bring, as a starting point. I have one my midwives gave me (they attend births at hospitals as well) -- I will try to post it later!

Thats a really good question... I have no idea what sort of stuff to take when I go to have baby...

Sorry I can't be any help but I'm also quite interested to know what I should be taking!

Last night was the last class for my pregnant and prepared class. She gave us a list with helpful things to bring to the hospital. I'll share it with you guys.
  • Radio,CD or Cassette Player with your fav music for relaxation
  • Camera and Film
  • Video Equipment
  • Lotions,oils, and relaxation tools
  • Old Socks (yours will get blood on them so nothing pretty and fancy)
  • Snacks for Dad
  • Robe
  • Comfortable gown,sweats,shorts, etc...whatever you prefer
  • Underwear (old and preferrably the cotton "granny" panties because they'll be more comfy and blood will more than likely get on them)
  • Bra
  • Breast Pads
  • Slippers
  • Lip Balm
  • Pillow (if you have a fav)
  • Shampoo and other hair products
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Lotion
  • Favorite soap
  • deodorant
  • hairbrush/comb
  • eyeglasses/contacts/supplies
  • phone list
  • going home outfit for you (7 months size)
  • Going home outfit for baby
  • Blankets
  • Bunting if is cold
  • Birth Plan
  • Car Seat-ITS THE LAW!
  • Pads (my hospital provides them but you may want to check with your hospital)
  • Dad/Support Person overnight bag
Diaper Bag Essentials Checklist
  • diapers (6-8)
  • Travel pack of wipes
  • diaper rash ointment
  • change of clothes according to season
  • 2 receiving blankets
  • rattles
  • baby's fav stuffed animal
  • bottles w/ breastmilk or formula in insulated carrier
  • 2-3 burpcloths
  • hand sanitizer
  • 2-3 plastic baggies for disposing of soiled diapers
  • small toiletry bag for diaper rash ointment, bandage, nail clippers, wash cloth, bath soap, acetaminophen
  • changing pad
  • pacifier or teether
  • small bottle of water
  • disposable camera in sealed plastic baggy
  • 2 bibs
  • $20 (just in case)

Hope this helps but if I did not include anything, feel free to add on to the list.

That list was essentials for the diaper bag, not the hospital.

With ds, I bought a pair of nursing pj's that had a top and bottom. I brought just the top with me to the hospital, and wore it with the hospital gown backwards like a robe (open in front instead of back). It was heaven! It was also winter time and felt nice and snuggly. (don't wear anything you actually love that could get blood on it... it's very bloody afterwards!-which is why I wore just the top.) Good luck!
