I am planning a waterbirth UC with DH. He is a bit nervous but fully on board. I can't wait! DD was supposed to be a waterbirth at a birth center. When I was 41.5 weeks an u/s showed little fluid remaining and I was sent in for an emergency induction which was far from ideal and had many interventions. I feel lucky I didn't have a c-sec.

I'm still thinking about it.

I was unable to find any midwives in my area last pregnancy, so I don't know if I'll find one this time. Last time I went to hospital since we don't have a birth center, and neither of us felt comfortable with a UC. Overall, I was pleased and ended up with the birth I want, so if I have to go that route again - I think I'll be okay with it.

i'm planning a water birth at a birth center (www.beststartbirthcenter.com). i have my first appointment with the midwife on monday, and i'm going to call their bookkeeper on wednesday to find out what the out-of-pocket expense will be. i went in yesterday for a stealth scoping out mission. i got a walk-in pregnancy test and then managed to have the tech give me a little tour of the place. it is BEAUTIFUL. they're building brand new rooms upstairs, and they are so gorgeous.

what does the UC in unassisted homebirth stand for?

I'll most likely have a waterbirth at home. My first two kiddo's were waterbabies and I had them at my mom's house, in her large garden tub. I had them at my mom's because I always lived in apartments or something and didn't want to set up a pool, plus, I just felt really comfortable at my mommy's house. I really got to be pampered while I was there, since we usually stayed for a day or two.

This time, we'll probably do it at my house, since we own our home and have a huge tub. Then again........it's really nice to be pampered at my mom's......We'll see!

Either way, I'm all lined out with my midwife and ready for a homebirth. I might try to talk DH into catching, although I really liked having him support me from behind, also.

hospital birth with a midwife - I'd love to do a birth center, but there are none around here. I've heard good things about water birth, so I'm interested in that, though when I asked the midwife about it, she said she doesn't recommend it for first birth, but that we could do it if I wanted. So we'll see - it does sound really soothing.

we already toured the hospital we plan to use (while we were still ttc
) and both felt really good about it - sounds like it'll offer a lot of freedom, and the nurse that took us around was great - we felt very comfortable, so I'm pumped about that

homebirth with midwife, here. kelsi, i'm jealous of your planned uc, though! i've been processing a lot of details about hazel's birth, lately--it mostly went really well, but there are some things i'd like to change with this one. she was a sort-of waterbirth (shoulder dystocia, so i had to push her out above the waterline between contractions, with the midwife putting traction on her head), but i feel like the water limited my choices, so i'll probably get a tub but just labor in it.

I was surprised when DH easily agreed to it! He tends to be conservative to my crunchyness, so I was prepared to fight for it, but I didn't have to!

I'm planning a UC waterbirth also. I don't know if it will end up in the water or not.. I'm just gonna go with the flow and see where I feel most comfortable. This will be my first homebirth and I'm really looking forward to doing it my way with no one yelling at me and telling me what to do!

Oh, I want to add that our birth center does waterbirths. I can't think of any earthly reason not to take advantage of that!

The only other birth center we would consider is at a hospital, and is pretty well-known for being fantastic for natural births and midwives. However, you can only labor in the water/tubs, but have to get out to actually push. I can imagine that being the most annoying feeling ever - getting out of the water when it starts to get hard!

I would definately pick a homebirth with a midwife if I could, but unfortunately I may not have that option since I am living in Japan. I know there are midwives here, but the people I have asked have said that they may not take me since I don't speak Japanese. I don't know what to do right now! In fact, since I just found out this morning that I am pg--I'm still a little overwhelmed with that info (had an appt for IUD next week--LOL).

I'm in South Dakota so the options are really limited to either unassisted home births or hospital births. There are midwives at the hospitals but I prefer the family doctors at my local clinic. I'm planning on using one of them. The only way I would consider the home birth is if there is an April blizzard.
