This sound stupid but I need dirt to put in my pots for the balcony. What type of dirt should I buy? All the bags of dirt say different things and I am not really sure what I need.

or

Is there somewhere I can get good dirt for my pots for free? I know where to get free wood chips. Can I just take some of the ground? It isn't my yard, it is an apartment complex with landscaping.

I had read your post, but hadn't answered, because I was wondering about the 'good dirt for free' part. If it where for me, I guess I could drive to the forest, about 20 minutes away, and dig up some soil from there. On a week day, I suspect that nobody would notice or care. It might be different where you live, though...

I buy my organic potting mix bulk by the 30 gallon tote (since I don't have a truck to haul more) at the local plant nursery.
