DD will be just shy of 2 when baby #2 arrives, right around Christmas. Our current sleeping situation is that she sleeps, as much as possible, which lately has not been that much, in the toddler bed that is a few feet from our bed. She usually starts the night in her bed, at some point wakes up and then spends the rest of the night in our queen size bed. This is, for the most part, an agreeable situation for all of us. (although I would really love if she could sleep through the night, or at least not wake after only sleeping 2-3 hours, but I am a bit resigned to that
: )

So, my question is, that since her sleeping behavior is unlikely to change much in the next 10 weeks, how would you arange the new sleeping situation with a new baby? I know that toddlers and newborns shouldn't be next to each other in the same bed (and I don't think that there would be enough room) and I wouldn't want either child on the outside of the bed. I have considered getting a co-sleeper for the new baby, but I am thinking that the room is getting pretty full! We do have another bedroom, but it is on another floor, and I would not be comfortable with either child there by herself.

Thoughts??

Why not push the toddler bed right next to your bed for a side car arrangement (if you can have it at the same height as the big bed)? Depending on your preferences, toddler can still sleep in it, or baby could, or you and baby could with toddler next to Dad, or, or, or...

Many ap parents just throw a couple mattresses on the floor for a while. Everybody just piles in, watching out for the toddler if necc so she doesn't get next to baby for 3 mos or so.

Well, there is a thought...never occured to me to use the toddler bed as a sidecar. Pregnancy brain??? It also converts to a crib, so that makes it even better.

I would just put the mattress on the floor with another beside it, but DH doesn't go for that. We did put the mattress on the floor for a while when DD kept falling out, but have moved it back up.

I remember now why I didn't want to use the toddler bed...because it is my DD's bed. She isn't in it fulltime, but it is supposed to be her bed, as opposed to sleeping with us fulltime. I assume the new baby will be with us fulltime. Ugh!! The bedroom is going to be mighty tight with our bed, DD's and a co-sleeper, never mind the changing table and our 2 dressers!
