DH works with this guy who apparently is a big "hippy". He's supposedly all crunchy granola, and very into the enviroment. His daughter's name is Strawberry. So I asked DH to ask this guy if they use cloth diapers on their DD. No. They don't. They use disposables. Because they don't want to "deal" with CDs I don't understand people.

LOL this reminds me of dh's sister and her friends... they are supposedly all neo-hippy, enviornmentally counscious and all, but man... I went to SIL's wedding and besides the superficial lifestyle.. I don't think I have ever met a group of people as unconcerned about the substances they put into their body! Umm there was one guy there who was a vegan, but besides that.... none of the kiddos there were cloth diapered that I could tell

Yeah but that is so sad, I mean how much fun could you have diapering a little girl named Strawberry!? I see strawberry soakers, and shortcake prints, and OH man I could have fun....yet I am having another boy....LOL

I guess fruit is in, I mean Apple, Strawberry, I pitty the child that is named banana though forever will they be thought of like And honestly what is next? This is my daughter Grapefruit? We just name the child after what we are eating just before the birth.....here is my son Cheeseburger.

That is so silly. If they named her Strawberry the least they could do is get cloth for her bum.

I don't understand how CD'ing is supposedly 'harder' than using 'sposies. OH MY! I have an extra load of laundry to do! Big deal! At least I'll never have to run out to the store at 10 p.m. 'cause we ran out of dipes. Personally, I LOVE doing the so called 'extra work' - especially having to buy the cute dipes on-line and have them delivered right to my door! hee hee!

You can call yourself a hippy granola cruncher and get away with a lot of mainstream things, but using disposables is not one of them. How can they call themselves crunchy if they are'nt using cloth. That is the one choice everyone CAN make.

Kumquat I guess is next.

This really ticks me off, when someone claims this way crunchy way of life but they choose such mainstream outs. My friend, the planned c-section for convenience queen (and vastly down on my natural homebirths and cd'ing), is alllll pagan-goddess--earthy--gaia! I don't see it........

In that case, my dd should be named Pizza! :

Seriously, I totally get this. My friend thinks he and his wife are totally crunchy, yet they drive the biggest SUV I've ever seen, tried to CD and found it too difficult, are total Gap/Old Navy fiends... etc. Kinda interesting.

don't you get your crunchy badge taken away if you don't cd?!
are we naming them after the last thing we ate before they were born or the first thing we ate after we had them? if it's the former, rename my girl "mashed potatoes." if it's the latter, then she's "scrambled eggs." either way, i'd say she made out better as a katie! :

Man I have no clue what I ate just before or after Nathan's birth! :LOL

And I just wanted to say I have a friend like that too! She's never vaccinated either one of her kids and was never vax herself! She lives on a farm (her own farm) and has a large garden with chickens, cows, etc. She's still breastfeeding at 2 years and would be breastfeeding her 4 year old if it weren't for something (can't remember what). She's lived off the land and just considers herself extremely crunchy but doesn't c/d. She said she did it for about a year with her older child when they didn't have money for disposables (thrift store wraps and prefolds) but it wasn't for her long term! Also her son is circ'd. I asked why and she said to look like Daddy, she said she never really considered not circ'ing! AND she home birthed both babies! I just don't get it! I thought it was so weird that she'd home birth and then a week later take her son in to have him circ'd.. in retrospect she thought it was weird too and I can tell she was actually thinking about the things we'd talked about..

*sigh* I don't claim to be crunchy but those who do confuse me! :LOL

Well if we were naming our children after what we ate before they were conceived, I should have called Eliza Chardonnay! And Ewan would be Merlot. I think I have a problem.

You know, most people don't have a CLUE what cd'ing is really like. I can't tell you how many people I've met that didn't realize that a diaper (cpf) gets a COVER over it. They figured you just end up with a wet lap like in all those dorky slapstick movies. That you have to use a lap pad when you hold the baby and hope that you're quick enough to change the diaper before you have a big puddle on the floor.

Now here's a question - those of you who call yourselves crunchy....do you use toilet paper, or cloth wipes?

:LOL No, really - I think this goes along with my bafflement of the women I've met that had homebirths but CHOSE to formula-feed (as in, wouldn't even TRY breastfeeding!) There are more of them than you would ever think!
Anyway, the whole crunchy/disposable thing doesn't really surprise me much - the impact of disposable diapers has been sooooo downplayed lately that most of these folks really truly believe that it doesn't make much difference, because "cloth diapers pollute & use up resources, too, yanno..."

Maybe throwaway paper clothes will be next, so nobody has to be bothered with laundry at all! Paper bath towels, anyone? Crinkly paper undies, anyone?
