I think my pouch has seen the last of its days. When I use the hip-carry, it kinda throws my lower back out of wack and he doesn't fit well in the other carries any more.

What's a good toddler-friendly carrier?

Depends on your needs and what you prefer.

I personally find the ERGO to be bulky and dislike the material. A lot of people love it and it really works great for them.

I prefer a Mei Tai because it folds up small, can be customized, you can use back/front/side, is soft and unstructured. I also love wraps for older kids.

Any two shouldered carrier whether it be an Ergo, a Mei Tei or a wrap. Wraps IMHO are the most versatile. I used it recently to cover a nasty hot carseat.

Just an FYI, I bought a woven wrap for the birth of my second daughter. Just for grins and giggles, I tried carrying my 32 lb, 3 yo with it. (Hey I've heard moms online say they did it). OMG! It was so easy and she just went nuts! I haven't carried her for well over a year and a half because she was too heavy for my stretchy wrap.

Well, it looks like I might be carrying a toddler while the baby sleeps in the stroller for our outing to the county fair.

I use my maya wrap still, and dd is 40 lbs, and ds is 30 lbs. but, I can't carry them for as long in the sling as I can with the backpack, which has padded shoulder straps and places the weight on your pelvic bones, instead of your shoulders/neck.

Another vote for the Ergo - I carried DD (then 14 months) all over Disney in that thing. And I have a bad back (had surgery three years ago). The Ergo is great!
