DS2 did a number on his toe today. Completely ripped off the nail. So we cleaned it, applied some calendula ointment, and then wrapped the whole thing up in bandages and tape. When DH saw it, he said DS2 looked like a mummy. Which prompted DS2 to ask, "What's a mummy?" So we went to look it up online. Only problem is, all of the images we found were pretty gruesome. And all of the Egyptian history sites were pretty much over his head, or just not interesting to him.

Does anyone have links to good sites with history info for smaller kids, especially Egyptology? Or book recommendations? Or even things meant for older kids, but not dry as dust, would be great.

TIA!

My kids liked I Am the Mummy Heb-Nefert by Eve Bunting. It explains the reason they mummifed people and a quick (non-gross) explination of how they do it from the view point of the person being mummified. Pretty cool!

http://www.amazon.com/Am-Mummy-Heb-N.../dp/0152004793

Try Ancient Egypt Kid Connection

Tip: When you want to find out more about a subject for him online, try typing "for kids" into your search words - such as "mummies for kids." It gets you straight to the kinds of things you're really looking for and bypasses a whole lot of stuff you don't want. Lillian
