My mom keeps pestering me to come up with a girl's name just in case. I have no idea what I'm having, and the OB won't do another ultrasound just to check gender. We have a boy's name, but all the girl's names we think of don't sound right. Why can't everyone just leave me alone about the dang name until the baby gets here?!?: If we went with how gender works in birth order in the women on both sides of my family it goes girl, boy, boy, boy... I've had a girl, so it's time for a boy. If we end up with another girl, then I guess we'll figure something out, but I'm not feeling the need to really put out the effort at this point. I think I just needed to vent on this...

LOL about gender order. My neighbor Had had 4 kids- girl, boy, girl, boy and thus started crocheting a huge pink blanket... Then she undid it and made a blue one for her son

Since it's the sperm that determines gender, I would definitely come up with a name you like!

My little sister had her first baby at 16 and was supposed to name the baby after the dad...until...he married someone else 3 weeks before she delivered, so we took the name book to the hospital and her DS left with a name. I don't think you have to pick something now, maybe meeting your DC will be all you need. But to get people off your back maybe you should say you've picked Cheddarilla.

What, you mean since he's already made his contribution she should get to pick the name?!

Actually? YES! Err... no, I mean. Okay, yes, I think that's only fair after the trouble my hubster has given me on names!

But that wasn't my original point. She said:

So I wanted to say that her DPs spermies may not do what the other husband's in her family have done. I would pick a name just in case!

come up with a totally out there "fake' decoy name and deliver it straight faced and insist that is the name.. we use Penelope for a girl (which is a fine name but our last name starts with P.. umm initials PP?? and together they sound ridiculous!) hopefully I did not offend anyone with a DD named Penelope!.. our boy decoy is Horatio (just because..!) my neighbor told everyone they were naming Ds Gunnar.. (not that there is anything wrong with Gunnar..) his name is connor.. anyway, it is an easier way to "tell" them to mind hteir own biz!
