Hello all-

My husband may have a career opportunity in Omaha, and we're trying to decide whether that city would be a good fit for our family. I stay home with our 15-month old daughter, so I'm particularly interested in what sorts of things she and I could do together. I'm fairly involved in our local LLL- are there any other AP-minded groups in the area? I also really like the idea of living in an area where she and I could walk to shops, grocery, parks-- my concerm about living in a larger city (we're now in a college town of about 70,000) is that perhaps the areas that would be conveniant for minimal car-living might be less safe to live in. Do you know of families living downtown in Omaha, or is it mainly a single crowd? Are there particular areas that you'd recommend? I'd also really like to know about what sort of social scene there is for a family with fairly liberal politics and a humanist philosophy (I add the last because I feel like so many people are able to meet like-minded folks through church and that just isn't an option for us)

Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Hi!
My dh and I are former residents of the Omaha area. We both grew up in the area and lived across the river in Council Bluffs, IA when dd was small and dh worked in Omaha.
We are in northeast KS now.

Did you see the Nebraska 2007 thread? I think there are some Omaha moms participating there.
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...=588845&page=2

http://www.mommythink.com/web%20page...-parenting.php
