I saw this abbreviation used in a reference to a style of parenting or discipline... like another option to AP parenting. What does it mean?
I think it probably refers to "Taking Children Seriously" - a book about listening to and respecting children and what they have to say.

I've never read that book but I imagine that I'd agree with the parenting philosophy.

I think we're not supposed to talk about TCS or there are specific guidelines for talking about it...probably ask a mod to find out the rules cause Im not sure.

If TCS means "Taking Children Seriously", why would there be specific guidelines for talking about it? I am guessing there must be something I don't know about this philosophy hey? Sounds innocent enough to me, but.... FWIW, I have never heard of it before this thread.

ETA: Nevermind. I just looked it up and I think I understand now.

In the past it's been a REALLY heated topic, so much so that people were just about at each other's throats. I think that there is an approved TCS/CPF (taking children seriously/common preference finding) thread around here somewhere in one of the forums. Maybe a mod can't point you to it.

I can see, in the tiny bit that I read about it, how that could happen.

Thanks, I truly didn;t know what the abbrev meant. I was not trying to start a debate or bring up a controversial topic.

Thanks for the explination!

That's what I did and then proceeded to waste a good chunk of my morning by reading it.

The GD has hosted many a convo about this lifestyle/parenting philosophy.

Ah... the good old days when what's now considered gentle discipline was the more punitive style of parenting at mdc... before creepy names like dobson or pearl would even leak into this forum, let alone be defended by some members...

check the gentle discipline archives. Even if you don't agree with or want to commit to tcs, it has lots of inspiring stuff!
