My twins are almost 15 months & I'm starting to think about this. I'd like to have a chicken pox party, but I have no idea when I should start thinking about it. What is the best age for a child to get chicken pox? I tried to search for this but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know?

I'm not even sure I'm posting this to the right forum... :

From everything I've read, the best age for most childhood diseases is from age 3 to 8. CP might also be ok until age 12 or so.

Of course you can't pick and choose all that much :LOL but at age 3 the child can understand that he is just sick and will get better. He can voice his concerns and tell you how he feels. And after age 8 the child should pretty much be done with the childhood diseases.

So, you got lots of time yet, I wouldn't rush it.

From what I understand, anything under 15 yrs is ideal. Once a person passes 15 years, statistically, they have considerably more complications and greater chance of death. I have a cdc stat (in a safe and logical place on my computer) that said 5% of the cases of cp is in people 15 and over (maybe it was 18 and over) but that population is responsible for 55% of the deaths from cp and related compications. We did quite a bit of research a couple years ago when our health dept wanted to mandate varicella vaccine, of course, I can't find the document on my computer with the exact info on the stats of when the disease is the most benign. Will look some more.

In our family I tried w/pox parties three times before we got it.
when it did come we were not wanting it... too funny- we really can't plan.
so we had a 8 yo who brought it home from school when ds1 was 5 yo and baby was 3 weeks old.
both the boys broke out with it 2 1/2 weeks later.
everyone was fine- it was no big deal at any of these ages...
