I'm sooo sorry to ask so many questions (I'm so dumb) I've got my covers picked out, I've even got some ordered, now I have to choose my prefolds! What is the difference? 4x6x4 vs. 4x8x4? Premium vs. Regular? Bleached vs. Unbleached? Should I buy 2 dozen of the Regular for day use and 1 dozen of the Premium for night time?

TIA

How heavy a wetter do you have?

No matter your answer, I'd still suggest 4x8x4 premiums, unbleached.

* 4x8x4 because more absorbency is better (at least for us). And ds can still wet through one of those in 5 seconds if he wants. He can wet through a premium prefold with 8 layers of hemp fleece in his wet zone in less than 5 minutes.
* Premiums because they're a little bigger than the regulars, and yes, your babe will eventually grow into them. Besides, I find I need as much width as possible on prefolds, and have been folding down the front for a shorter rise and extra absorbency in the front for ds.
* Unbleached because they help hide bf poo stains, and they wash up super soft. Besides, if you sun or line dry your diapers much, the sun'll bleach them anyway, but without harsh chemicals.

4x8x4 premiums are both bigger and thicker than 4x6x4 regulars

I prefer the unbleached because they are softer and they hide stains better than the bleached ones do.

I think 2 dozen regulars and a dozen premiums sounds great

everything you ever wanted to know about prefolds (and even a bit more) can be found here...

(they call the regulars "regular lightweight" and the premiums "regular premiums, so don't let that confuse you too much)

that site helped me a lot when I was picking mine out

ETA: I have used regulars (4x6x4) on Ethan since he was about 4 months old. Even now at 14 months and 22 lbs, the premiums are just too big on him and cause a lot of bulk.

DS is a pretty good wetter, but I change him pretty often but at night he fills his diaper pretty good, usually no poo, but he pees a lot. Thank-you! I think DH is getting annoyed with me struggling with this, even though he's behind me in cd'ing, I think he's getting sick of hearing about it!

FWIW, I'd go for the unbleached premiums, for all the reasons that lmonter listed.
We started using that size on Ian when he was 4 months old. We did have to fold them down in front for a while, but it really wasn't that big a deal. That said, if your dc is shorter than average, it might be worth your while to just stick with the regulars for daytime. But you'll definitely want the thickest, most absorbent dipes possible for nighttime use.
