Ok, who here is cloth diapering?? Whats your stash look like so far?
This is our first and we are planning to cloth diaper,at least at home. We will probably use sposies out of the house at first. At least until I figure out what type of diapers I like and get a good stash that I can go for a few days without washing. Since its our first and I am new to cloth diapers I dont want to buy a ton and not like some or use them like I thought I would.
I havent bought any yet, waiting til we find out the gender but I am planning to get
8 AIO's from a WAHM, never used her dipes but she has 100% positive feedback so I am going with my gut.
4 AIO's from another WAHM, same deal, but she has 100% positive feedback also.
4 Bum genius 3.0 AIO's

I will be getting all the above in x-small and small so in all I will have 16 x-small and 16 small. Then I will see which ones I like best and possibly add to my small stash and the babe grows into it and also figure out which ones I want to make my medium stash out of.

EDIT- Where do you suggest getting soakers for over night or heavy pee??

We use prefolds and Thirsties covers, I also lay in washcloths to help my little one last through naps and overnight. We have 2 in diapers(9 month old, 22 month old) so we have 24 premium indian prefolds bought from Little Lions, 6 Mamabearbabywear covers and 4 Thirsties covers.

We recently made the switch to Thirsties because they fit better and do not leak. Fitted, pocket and aios are really cute but how simple and easy to use prefolds are. =)

I am buying my friends stash of Fuzzi Bunz in size medium, and for in the beginning we are using prefolds with some Bummis wraps. I am knitting up some soakers. This will also be our first time using cloth. I am very excited!

I used Kissaluvs 0 with DD until she was over 3 months old and then she finally fit her size small Fuzzi Bunz.

This baby will need NO newborn diapers . . but if babe is a boy, we'll need a few more FB in neutral colors (though not many, maybe 5?).

I would like to try some Thirsties AIO, since I've heard they are a more "skinny" diaper. Certain outfits it really, really bothered me that DD's butt was SO HUGE! I didn't care in jammies or dresses, but some of her pants looked so silly. Okay, so yeah, I'm vain, but I would like to try a smaller dipe.

Also DD never cared if she was wet, but if this babe does, the kissaluvs will be a pain, since baby "feels" the wet more than something fleece. So we'll see what I can round up used!

I use prefolds and wool, sometimes PUL. I need to buy some smaller prefolds and covers but nothing major. I'll also be practicing EC.

Never had a problem with overnights, prefold and an Aristocrats.

I honestly do not understand hysteria and obsession over what my baby will/does pee and poop in. Just not my thing.

I haven't bought anything yet, but I have a lot already.

I really think your going to need more than that. They say to figure 12 diaper changes a day for a newborn.

You might want to get some prefolds and covers. IMO, they really to work the best for a newborn. Newborns have little legs and you can get a much better fit with a cover and prefold.

i only have ever used diapers from www.motherease.com and absolutely LOVE them! i have used them through one child, one child is still in the large and one-sizes, and my smalls, one-sizes, and larges are all in more than great shape to go through this child. the covers all still look like new, even though they are also on child #2.

i am not planning on buying any more, just reusing what we have.

How many diapers do you need for a typical newborn? I have a SAHM who is making all of my diapers (from recycled t-shirts and then like out and about pocket diapers) and I was interested in how many you all used with your previous LOs in the newborn stage.
I'm a first time mom/CD user so I'm getting the horror stories from other moms.

I have girly Snap-EZ and lots of fuzzi-bunz that I stuff with double inserts for naps and nightime. I really loved both, but I feel like for my babie's the fuzzi-bunz worked better and the sizes last longer. I bought newborn sized Snap-EZ and my 8LB 8 OZ NEVER fit into them, so in my opinion they run a little small. They are adorable and in the right size worked quite nicely and both washed beatifully and held up well. Unfortunately I just looked and Snap-EZ seems to have discontinued most of their product line.

I'm sewing up some fitteds from all my old flannel recieving blankets, they're kinda size neutral so they should last a while. I bought a bunch of wool longies on ebay too. They should last a while (I bought them a BIT too big). Size mediums I have a BUNCH of fuzzi bunz, although I don't know if my twins will outgrow them by the time pumpkin arrives. I have lots of prefolds in medium and about a dozen in large and a bunch of wool in medium and XL plus some Bummis covers. Once I finish the little diapers I have a full stash

we have about 3 dozen in circulation right now
a bunch of pocket dipes made by a local wahm
gabbys aio
and g diapers (using their liners when we travel, and just some trifolds when i use them at home)
my son has been a medium since he was 6mths old and is still in them (he's very slim 22.5lbs and 34.5 tall at 2yrs old). so maybe he can learn how to use the potty before we have to invest in a larger size.

am going back to the same wahm for a few small sized pocket diapers as they are the ones i like best. then probably some prefolds and a few extra covers

Its not an obsession its fun!

I think I may have a few too many CD's
I found a great pre-loved nappy site and ended up buying 50 Motherease BTP (they are in great condition) and MIL has just bought me a gift pack of 15 microfleece pocket nappies so I now have 65 nappies......... MIL is going to be looking after little one when I go back to work at 6months so she is going to take 20 or so of the Motherease's to keep at hers.

It felt like christmas when my pre-loved ones arrived - I rushed home from work so I could open them

Like I said, I will probably still use some sposies in between yet so these will not be the only dipes.

BUT- I have been thinking and I could get a dozen PF and some covers also but I just have a feeling i wont like using them. Maybe I will if I would use them but I just have a feeling I wont and I dont want to spend the money if they wont get used ya know? The one WAHM is offering me buy 10 dipes get the 11th free so i may get more than 8 per size from the one so that would give me 3 extra dipes each size if I decide to do that. Do PF really keep newborn BM poop from leaking? i would prefer not to use snappi's or pins.

When I first decided to switch to cloth (3 babies ago), my main issue was deciding on snaps or velcro. I preferred snaps and ended up with lots of fuzzi bunz, motherease and various wahm dipes. For covers I liked bummis super whisper wrap and motherease cover. Of course the AIO's (like fb)are the easiest, nobody can argue that, but they're also the most expensive. I always made sure to have enough AIO's to keep my diaper bag stocked between laundry loads, and then I used all fitteds with covers at home just to be more economical. Also with fuzzi bunz you have to be careful about what you wash them in because they can acquire a buildup on the fleece where urine just runs off of them instead of into them, that's messy. A lot of complanies have a "trial" set where they'll send you one of each type of diaper they carry (I know motherease does this) to help you narrow down your favorites, that might help you in deciding.

I've loaned my diapers out several times to friends and family members considering cloth diapering so that they could decide if it was really for them, and then if it was, what type of diapers they preferred so they could start building their own stash. Do you know of anyone that would be willing to do this for you?

Good luck,
Nicole D.

Thats a good idea!! But I honestly dont know one person around here that uses cloth diapers. (Im going to be the "natural freak", lol) My town is not very natural minded so I dont even know where to start to find someone who would use dipes. I kinda have in the back of my head what I need to do but its just doing it!! Lol. I am thinking getting 10-14 AIO's then getting a dozen PF's and some covers. I just think the AIOs would be easier for DH to use and maybe easier for people that will be changing babe's dipes to not get overwhelmed.

Right now all I have are the medium dipes that I made, but I can convert them to small by adding another row of snaps. I think there are at least a dozen of them. Just need to do that LOL

I've got 5-6 small wool soakers and a few mediums. I need to make a few more mediums and some larges.

DH said that we could try some bumgenius 3.0 AIO OS. Does anyone have any input on those? I've read about them and for the $$$ they seem the best for us. We will use sposies when we go see his family and for sicky times, but I'd really like to stick with the cloth mostly.

I think we'll buy 3-4 of the bg's and then see what we like.

We cloth diaper with Ds (17 months) but didn't start until he was about 6 months so we missed the fun newborn window. We went with the bumgenius 3.0's and we love them. We only got 12 because that's all we could afford at the time and we mix in disposables (but hope to not do that this next time around). Having only 12 means much more laundry that I would prefer!!!! I am hoping to add 12-24 more with our new baby. That will be the only things we really need so I am hoping it all works out! As far as heavy wetters, that is my son! I use the insert and the infant doubler to help with leaking. At night, I do admit I use a disposable now because he just wets more at night since he's older. I love the one size diapers because convenient cloth are so expensive, I wanted something that would last and having had only 12, I will get another child's wear out of them! So, durable, yes! Reliable, YES! As long as you wash them with detergent with no additives... Good luck deciding! There are so many options now!

Just a thought on the prefolds, they're super cheap so that makes them very appealing, I know. And I think they work out great when the babes are little, but as soon as they start crawling or moving around much, the pf's are really hard to keep in one place. I would recommend getting at least contoured diapers, or (if you can afford it) fitteds with snaps or velcro. You'll still need a cover whether you use pf's, contoured or fitteds, and either one of those will be cheaper than the AIO's. But I think your dh would find it very easy to use the fitteds with a cover.
