I'm doing a home birth with a midwife (she's great) and I'm planning an ultrasound at about 20 weeks because...um...I'm really impatient and want to know if I'm having a boy or a girl.
I'm only at 8 weeks now, but I keep thinking I'd like to do an early u/s. More than any other sensible medical reason, I think I just want to convince myself that there's actually still a baby in there. Who's having an early check, and who's waiting or not having a u/s at all?

I had an u/s at 8 weeks to adjust my due date from NOvember 17 to December 3. I knew it was way off because I knew I had ovulated around day 29. we also wanted to verify how many babies there were. I know my midwife wants me to have another one at 20 weeks. She is a CNM and works at the medical school and that is the procedure. I can refuse it but I haven't decided yet. Other than that, I don't plan on having any other ones. Since this is my last one I don't plan on finding out what I am having. I really want a real surprise.

8 weeks, 20ish weeks, that's it unless otherwise indicated. If I end up having a hospital birth with a CNM (not my first choice) I will have to have one at 35 weeks too. I had like 10 or more last time so this is a serious reduction!

I'm having one in about three weeks, at which point I'll be 10 weeks. That one can't come fast enough. I really want to make sure everything is okay. I'll also have one at 20 weeks. I might have to have more because I have pre-existing hypertension, but it's possible these two will be all I need if my blood pressure behaves itself.

Another one homebirthing with a midwife here.

I'll probably have several ultrasounds.

Our first baby had anenecephaly. I had declined any maternal screening blood tests or ultrasounds, because I was only twenty years old at the time and it was recommended 'against' by my midwife at the time.

My family physician had some concerns about how small I was measuring at around twenty weeks (I was there seeing her for something completely unrelated) and asked if I wanted an ultrasound - I agreed.

So, at twenty one weeks I was informed that the baby had anencephaly. From there we had several very painful and difficult decisions to make.

This time (as with my second pregnancy) I will be having an ultrasound at eight weeks, possibly at sixteen weeks and twenty weeks.

I really think it's up to each individual woman, and I support everyone's right to choose.

We're definately having one at 20 weeks. I had an early dating US at 5 weeks, and it did WAY more harm than good -- the technician didn't see a fetal pole and freaked everyone out. I'm reassured by my happily doubling betas, but if we don't hear a heartbeat at 10 weeks by doppler, I'll probably freak out and insist on another one. I'm already having terrible pregnancy anxiety and I just don't think I could handle anything creating additonal stress.

We'll have the usual 20 week u/s just to make sure all the organs are in their proper places & such. We won't find out the gender.

I am high risk after a very late loss a couple of years ago. I went in for my first prenatal appointment this time around and had a meltdown right there in the office. My first ultrasound was going to be scheduled for 20 weeks and there was no way I could wait that long. The nurse practitioner, who is awesome, told a small lie on my chart in order to get me in there early (at 9 weeks). She told them she felt that my uterus was measuring large for my dates. I was glad she was willing to do that- having the early ultrasound really helped put me at ease. Since the nurse ordered it, it is covered by my insurance...

Good luck!

My second one will be tomorrow at 8 weeks. I truly hope this is the last one until the 18-20 week one. After the rough time we had with pregnancy #3, I'd be quite happy with a pregnancy that didn't warrent an u/s every couple of weeks (water broke at 29 weeks, so we checked fluid levels often). While it was fun to see the baby, the stress of those checks really took a toll. I noticed my stress levels rising dramatically just stepping into the midwife's office last week - I'm really hoping this is the most "excitement" we have for the next 30 weeks!

I had an ectopic pregnancy scare, so so far I've had 2. One was at 4 weeks, and one at 6 weeks.

DP and I are trying to decide if we want to do the fold test thing (I can't remember the name)-I'm 34 so right on the border of "advanced maternal age". We will definately have one at 20-22 weeks to make sure everything is in it's place, and because we will go crazy if we don't know the sex of this baby!

I had one a week ago (at 8 weeks) b/c I had a 7-week loss last time around. The news was GREAT (strong heartbeat, baby measuring right on for dates) and I'm most definitely feeling pregnant, so I won't have another until 20 weeks. Not sure if we'll find out gender yet, but at least want the 20-weeker to make sure the baby is ok.
