I know we still have a while to go, but I was wondering when everyone was going to put the new baby's carseat in? I don't want to waste space but I want ds to get used to not being in the middle anymore. Any thoughts?

Last time, we had the carseats installed about a month before my edd. Make sure you take it to get checked by a certified carseat tech. You can usually find them at your local health dept or by calling your local police dept and asking them. What we did was just bring our cars (we had one seat per car, since we skipped the infant carrier and got the convertible seats) and the seats with us to meet the lady at the health dept and she showed us and then helped us install the carseats on our own. It's the best way to learn how to do it correctly since there is some crazy percentage, like 90% of carseats are incorrectly installed. I think having LATCH has helped decrease that %, but even LATCH has been having a few issues lately, so it is always good to know how to install the seats correctly the, "old fashioned" way too. GL!

Probably after he's born. dd already mentions that it will be brother's seat after he's born.
And we are having a homebirth so we will just put it in the first time we want to go somewhere or maybe when I'm in labor.

Probably a few weeks before. Or if I think I might be in labor and its not in, it takes about 5 mins. SO I can always send DH out there to put it in at the last minute.

Now for my bag. I will probably start packing that about a month ahead of time. Just so I can take my time, put in travel sized toothpaste, q-tips, toothbrush...etc...

Well, my poor car is packed to the gills but we did buy it because it allows kids older than 8 in the front. The seat takes the weight and figures how much to inflate the airbags. (Saturn Relay..yay!!!!) but anyway..I'm just not crossing that bridge yet. Probably in August. I have one that's turning 8 and she'll be out of the bigger booster into just the small booster so things'll be changing then.

Friends are borrowing ours until around the time I'm due (their daughter should be out of it just in time!) So DH will most likely stop by their house when I'm at the birthing center, install it and bring us home. If I had it now, I think I'd have DH install it late July, just so DD gets used to it being next to her, but it'll all work out. I remember driving around a few weeks before DD was born with the empty carseat in my car - it felt so weird! But we didn't really need to do that since DH could have installed it before coming to pick us up. But, as a first time Mom I wanted everything done! This time my biggest worry as far as planning is coming up with a name - everything else is secondary :LOL

Probably in July with one month to go. we are switching dd from the right seat in the honda odyssey to the left - they way i park in the garage (on the left side) there is no way to get an infant seat out on the left side. so we'll switch then so she will get used to sitting on a different side.

Mines already in there...
: We bought a big ol' booster seat for DS and the car seat for new babe is back to being rear facing.
I just feel like it is going to happen really soon, and the more stuff I do now the better.

My first baby surprised us by coming 2 weeks early. DH took forever installing the seat in the parking lot while the baby and I sat in the hospital waiting after discharge. That's not going to happen again because we're having a homebirth this time.

We had to buy a new car a couple of weeks ago, so when we transfered DS's monstrous seat (Britax Husky) to the new car, we put it on the side instead of the middle. I'll probably install the baby bucket in mid-July.

All in all, I'm trying to get things done as I think of them instead of waiting like last time. The first time I was afraid I'd get everything done too early and then just sit around and wait, wait, wait. Now I know you can never get everything done. There's always something

This is my first baby, but I'm a nanny and will work through the end of June and I already have a seat in my car for the toddler I take care of. When I'm done working I'll give the parents their seat back and will put my infant car seat in, so it will be sometime in early July.

:LOL Last time I was supposed to buy the carseat the next day, but had the baby instead. It was a pain explaining to my hubby which one I wanted and how to put it in while I was in the hospital. This time I will probably put it in a couple weeks before my due date as hubby isn't as good at installing them as I am--he never gets them tight enough because you need to practically sit on it to make sure it gets in there securely without the latch. But if it doesn't get in, no big deal because we most likely won't be traveling after birth for at least a couple days.

My DH installed the convertible seat 3 months ago
: to make sure it would fit in our Ford Escape, of course it did but then I decided that it was just too big for a new little baby and went and bought a infant seat. DH took out the convertible (with much sighing) and installed the infant seat about 2 weeks ago. I
the latch system in the new vehicles. We are first time parents who are very excited (can you tell?)

Hey, we have an Escape too! I
it, but it is sure a good thing we didn't have twins as you can't get three carseats in that tiny back seat. It does have the latches, so when I move Nathan out of the middle, I'll have to figure those out.
If we have any more kids we may end up getting a *gasp* minivan----eeeeeew! Sorry, no offense to minivan owners.

BTW, infant seats are nicer as those tiny babies would get swallowed up in a regular car seats. They like the comfy closeness too, or at least Nathan did.

Well, we intend to deliver at home, so not until I decide to go somewhere with the baby. otherwise, at my other hospital deliveries I have my husband bring it to me when we are ready to go home. Never occurred to me to put it in the car beforehand. Why? I don't need it, so why waste the space?

The base of the bucket type and the whole thing of the convertable type are a HUGE effort to put in if you are doing it correctly. Do you use a base?

I'd rather do it at my leisure (in the evening when it's not so hot outside) than waiting for DH at the hospital or right before I need to be somewhere after a HB.

When we get a new car. Or get the alleged six seater up and running properly. it's a tight squeeze as it is, so putting the carseat/base in right now would just take up space we really don't have to spare. We'll be getting a mini van at the end of July, and we'll put the base in as soon as we get the girls seats organized. If Em gets here before the van does, we'll put her seat in the car and just not go anywhere as a whole family until we get the van.
