My 4 mo DD still wakes up several times a night but she will have one really good 3 or 4 hour stretch in the beginning of the night from about 8:30 or 9 until midnight or so....the problem is that I'M the one who can't sleep during this time! Am I just not used to this new sleeping pattern yet? I am right next to her but I roll over and check on her constantly until she wakes up...anyone else do this? I would love to also sleep 3 or 4 hours at at time...she doesn't do it except at the beginning of the night...otherwise it is every 2 hours (I don't mind, but to sleep that 4 hour stretch with her would be great!)

Is your bedroom very dark? Do you watch TV, go outdoors, turn on electric lights, exercise, or consume caffeine within a few hours of bedtime? What time do you eat dinner? When do you wake up in th morning?

I went through the same thing--a kind of hyper-vigilence common to new mothers--I was in such a state of sleep deprivation that I couldn't fall asleep (and was going just a little bit crazy <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: ). Are you a stress bunny like me? I needed to get my cortisol levels under control; to treat my adrenals with some respect (if you do a search on adrenal fatigue, you will find a wealth of information). This isn't to freak you out! I have just met so many new mothers who unknowingly suffer from weak adrenals, that I thought I should mention it.
