I'm not planning an early US but next week I have a medical checkup with my MW and they have a doppler in the office. It would be reassuring to hear the heartbeat after the spotting I had a couple of weeks ago, but I'm worried that we won't be able to hear it (and not know if it's due to an issue or just cause it's early). I'll be about 10 weeks along right on at the appointment. It's our first kiddo in case that makes a difference.

So when were you able to hear the heartbeat via doppler?

I heard it at 10w3d, my midwife said she was surprised at how easily she found it then. Hoping you can hear it if you choose to!

I heard it at home with a doppler mid and late in the 8th weeks with my dd and this one. I didn't get a doppler with my son until I was around 15-16 weeks.

My MW was not able to find the HB until a couple weeks after I did. I have to attribute finding them so early to having a lot of motivation and time to do it. It's not like I'm super skinny Since CPs only do it for a few minutes, it's less likely they will find it, so if they don't, try not to stress too much! You can always rent one and try yourself! It's been a huge blessing to spend 10 seconds making sure everything is ok before I go to bed.

I rented one with my last pregnancy and now with this one and agree that its nice to have for some peace of mind. I'm pretty sure I heard it somewhere between 9 and 10 weeks, but as above stated it took a lot of searching and there were times after that I couldn't hear it and then would find it the next day, etc.

I am 10 wks today and heard it this morning! I have gotten them at nine weeks in previous pregnancies. I think that if you're on the thinner side, you have a better chance of hearing one early on. I am pretty average and have had good luck.

Good luck to you!

When I was pregnant with my DD, my midwife caught it for a few seconds at 9w 5d. This time around at my appointment yesterday, she didn't find it at 10w 3d. She did find the "whoosh" of the growing uterus, though.

1st pregnancy MW found it instantly at 10wks. MW was totally surprised.

2nd pregnancy no dopplers.

3rd pregnancy, MW found it at 12wks. Said we should be able to, but might not and that would still be okay. Found it instantly.

16 weeks, with every. single. child. Always freaks my OB out, and he sends me for an ultrasound at 14 weeks. I'm a normal weight, not skinny, not heavy. Perhaps I just have sneaky kids. My MW didn't even try to find the heartbeat at my appointment (I was 9 weeks) after I told her of my history.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I'm still waffling about whether we should try it or not, DH said he doesn't really care as he's not a worrier so it won't bother him if we don't hear it. I'm leaning towards yes, but I'll probably ponder it more over the weekend and see how I feel on Wednesday.

Heard mine this week at 9 weeks, 3 days. She kept assuring us that if we heard nothing, it was nothing to worry about and that this was all "just for fun". When she did find it, she was fairly surprised/excited (ok, so she even cried), so I have a feeling that even though this woman is very experienced (head of the midwife department, has been to over 2,000 deliveries, etc.) that it is still difficult to find one so early on.

Good luck!

My DD, I don't remember. This time around, my nurse couldn't find it at almost 12 weeks (I think I was 11 weeks 5 days). She just rolled in an ultrasound and baby was fine.
