Just wondering if/when everyone stopped taking their prenatal vitamins. Dd is 9 months and I take mine. I was under the impression to take them as long as you are bf, but I'm not sure if many take them 4-5+ years. My understanding was the prenatals had the extra iron and folic. When the babe is on solids regularly, he/she will be intaking their own iron. But bf is draining on the mom's body right, so is the prenatal for the mom since all the vitamins and minerals go first to the babe, thus depleting moms stores? So then should you take the prenatals as long as bf?

Thanks

I never took them : I have a hard time with pills in general (hard to swallow, nasty taste in mouth, etc). My midwife said I would be fine with a good diet. I ate fortified whole grain cereal with OJ every morning and still do. We've never been anemic and I think folic acid is most crucial in the very early weeks of a fetus' developent. I guess it's one of those things that a general multi vit won't hurt and probably does some good.

Hello!

My Ds is only 13 months and I still take my pre natles (??spelling??) My gyno told me to take them as long as I nurse. I have always taken vitamins anyway so this was no problem for me. I know of many people who have a hard time takeing pills. It makes me feel better because I know that I do not eat as good as I should : I want to thou. I feel that it is just a better multi vitamin!
