When did your toddler get HAIR?

685 Views 20 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  the_lissa
DD 16 mo has less hair than when she was born lol. People keep asking is she a year or so, and she looks younger than she is (but acts older lol). I don't really care about the hair she is excessively cute as she is (of course I think that!) but wish people would not try and guess her age! She is about 32 inches and weighs 26 lbs.

Guess I am upset because 2 people this week thought she was 1 and then I got worried, but I think its her male pattern baldness! She has kind of a mohawk going on too. See the resemblance to Daddy?

Well, I just shaved Aidan's off last night...buzzed him down so he's cooler and he looks about like Celeste now.

I think she's adorable, and the hair will come in. All of mine were hairy from birth, but my mom/aunt/grandma were all bald babies/toddlers and it came in beautifully later on.

My baby got hair that need to be put in a barrette or ponytail around nine months. It is getting so long now at 15 months.

LOL all the little boys I see have hair that grows like crazy!

I just got back from the store and this 5 year old said excitedly to his Mama:

"Look that baby has a MOHAWK"

I think she was a little embarrassed and told me him and his brother have a thing for mohawks. LOL!

I thought so too, but my friend's babe has way more than that. More than mot three year olds I'd guess.

Very Cute! Definitely looks older than my DD! The sad thing is DD loves to brush her hair..I mean head!
Ha! J loves to brush her hair too, but it gets all tangled in her hair. It's kind funny, but a pita. She also likes to take her ponytails out, which I wouldn't mind, but then she can't see.
Destinye-Don't worry! My ds will be 2 in a week and is just going for his first haircut on Friday-still there isn't much to cut. Hang in there, it will come in eventually!!

DS is 15 months and has about the same amount of hair as your DD -- he too has a lot more in the middle than on the sides. I think it's adorable!

DD will be 2 in a week, and is still pretty bald. She has some wisps going on now, but definitely not enough hair to put into a ponytail or a barette.

Brynn

That's a recent pic. You can kind of see the wisps in it. She doesn't go anywhere without her hat. I think she's self-conscious. :LOL

I didn't have much hair until after I was 2, and I know that DH was practically bald until 3, so I'm not suprised. The one good thing about it is that people think she's much younger than she actually is. So when she opens her mouth and starts spouting sentences, they think she's some kind of uber-genius.

Nikki! Congrats on your new babe!
Hi. Our DD is 14 months and has about the same amount of hair as your little cutie. Strangers often ask how old HE is, even when SHE is wearing her pinkest pink t-shirt and flowered pink shoes! :LOL I'll betcha our babes will have the thickest of thick hair in the long run. Not to worry!
Thanks and glad she is not the only one! Your babies are so cute!

Yes we get the "He" comments too, someone asked if HE was a member of the WWF (NOT world wildlife fund!) and someone said now all "she" needs is a wig lol. Lucky I have a sense of humor but cannot imagine saying anything like that to a total stranger! I have learned to never guess the age and sex of a baby! "So how old is your baby?" is all I ever say now!

Nikki! Congrats on your new babe!
Thanks!

Hehe, we get the "Aww, what a cute little boy" comments ALL the time, even when DD is in her pinkest, girliest dresses. We even had one woman tell us that we had to get her ears pierced, so that no one would make that mistake again.

Ironically, the first time we had DD and her new little brother out (dressed in a brand new, very boy'ish outfit), we had a couple come up and say "Aww, what a sweet newborn! The older one must really be enjoying her new little sister." You just can't win! :LOL

We're still waiting! DD was 2 in Feb (so what's that - 28 months? pg momma can't count months anymore!), and it's just starting to fill in a bit. Mostly in the back. I'm not sure where she gets it. DH and I both had quite a bit more at this age.

Friends and family always say "wow, she's gotten a lot of hair recently", but that's because they're used to seeing a TOTAL cue ball. Strangers are always surprised to hear that she's already over 2 and 1/4 when they judge by her appearance. She's on the petite size, but I think her hair (or lack of) has more to do to it than anything else.

It's been really funny to look at old videos of her at 3 months, when I'm narrating about how her hair is starting to really come in now.

We've enjoyed her head though. FIL especially misses the peach-fuzz! It'll be a total shock to all of us if baby #2 comes out next month with lots of thick hair!

DD didn't have anything more than about 1/2" of hair until 16 months and even now at 26 months she still can barely keep a barrette in and forget about ponytails! I also was a baldy and now I have plenty so I'm not too worried. Her hair is really blond, almost white, so she looked bald even when it started to come in. We could do a tiny little sprout on top at about 18 months. I ended up trimming it myself at about 20 months because she was getting a mullet. Now she has a little bob with bangs, but still not a lot.

We also got "what a cute boy" comments until she started wearing more dresses at about 2. What is with people?? Can't they just say "what a cute BABY" instead?!
My dd will be 3 in October, and she has finally, in the last month or two started getting some hair (she has about 3.5 inches is all). She wore her 1ST little pigtail on top of her head at 2.5!!!

Don't worry, your dd has LOTS of time
Oh and enjoy not having to fix it yet! :LOL

Cute cute cute!

I think I will just delay my hair expectations for a while then! LOL The ironic thing is my mother always wanted us to have short hair (its long now) and hates long hair and I love it! But I know mine used to get really matted its so fine, so maybe its just as well for now!

I wonder why some babies hair comes in so much faster than others.
