- with a toy kitchen?
- at a children's table?
- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)?
- in a sandbox?
- with dolls?
- on riding toys?

DD is 9.5 months old, and I'm already thinking about her first birthday. These are all things I'm considering doing as gifts. I know/think she's too young for them now, but she's growing up so very quickly. She shocked me last month and asked for (by shreaking excitedly until I found it and let her try it) a rocking sheep in a store - she could really do it! I assumed I had months or even a year before she could sit on a rocking horse. I don't want to be pushing for older kid toys too soon, but I really want her to have these things, and I'm starting to think she might be there sooner than I expected. Besides, toddler toys are such fun

We bought a ride-on firetruck for ds at about 9 mos., and although he couldn't walk yet, he was able to ride it around the house. I was shocked! He's loved dolls since about 11 or 12 mos., started using crayons at about 15 mos. and his kid table at about 18 mos.
I highly recommend a doll stroller for a 1st b-day present. It seems to be a hit with every kid I know (boys and girls).

My girls are just starting to show interest in most of these at 18 months. The kitchen is still too advanced for them - will be a 2nd bday present in our house. They got dolls at 1, but just started "playing" with them. They love the table and chairs they just got. They do some crayon coloring, but mostly eat the crayons! They would have liked ride-ons sooner, but their legs are so short that even now they can barely touch the floor. They don't really care for the sandbox I forced DH to build
(but I think a lot of 1 year olds do)

My dd is almost one! Not walking yet, but cruising very proficiently.

- at a children's table? She plays at the coffee table, so probably yes
- in a sandbox? Loves it
- with dolls? Loves 'em
- on riding toys? Pushes them around, just starting to try climbing on them

- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)? 15 months for crayons, 18 months for playdough, 19 months for paint

- in a sandbox? 22 months (but never had opportunity before that)

- with dolls? 15 months

- on riding toys? 21 months

We got DD a tea set at christmas time (15 months) and she loves that and kitchen stuff so very much (she is 20 months old now). The doll stroller and dolls came at christmas time too and she loves them, she has been messing around with push/ride on toys since a year though, before she could walk. She is into sand right now (around 18 months). It think with sand, crayons, playdough, fingerpaint (we just got playdough and fingerpaints recently) you have to be careful about them eating it, wait till they get out of that stage or only use it with supervision.

Seven months, seriously.

- at a children's table?
Around a year, at daycare. (We don't own one.)

- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)?
A little before a year when I first tried crayons & finger paint. 16 months for playdough -- before that, I was afraid she'd eat it.

- in a sandbox?
18 months, at daycare. We don't have one at home, and 18 months is the "legal sandbox age" at our daycare.

- with dolls?
Six months! She loooves dolls, especially Barbie-type dolls nowadays.

- on riding toys?
She got her first one on her first birthday and loved it.

art supplies- around 18 months she really like it, but was exposed to the texture stuff and crafts younger, not sure of the age.
sandbox- 10-11 months
dolls- 15 months or so
riding toys- 12 months (she got 2 for her 1st b-day and loved them).

toy kitchen? She got hers for christmas at 16 months old and immediately loved it. She really enjoyed one at a hands on museum at 12 months old, too.
children's table? got for her 1st b-day and loved it. Something about stuff that is your size.
art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)? We started with chalk around 11-12 months old, crayons 12 months old, and markers shortly after. She LOVES art. Playdough we did around 17 months, and she really enjoyed it, and asks for it all the time now. Paint we did for the first time at her art class we started at 18 months old. The first week she was a little intimidated, but the 2nd week she dove right in, and it is now her favorite activity in the class (aside from the huge blocks they have!)
sandbox? don't have one, but we got her a couple playsets at 10 months old and surrounded them with pea gravel and she loved (and still does) picking it up, putting it into buckets, shoveling it, etc.
dolls? She actually got her first real doll (American Girl Bitty Baby) for christmas at 4 months old. My sister was getting a set for her girls and it was only a little more to add on the doll. We were all surprised by how she immediately fell in love. I think it was around 10-12 months old when she started playing with her though, more than just holding, carrying, eating her head, etc.
riding toys? She got a little ride on for her 1st b-day and climbed right on by herself. Around 10 months old is the first time I remember her getting in one, a little car, and she loved that.

- with a toy kitchen?
She loved this right away when she saw her first one at daycare at 12 months. She didn't entirely get what it was for but she loved turning the knobs and putting things in the sink anyhow.
- at a children's table?
She started being really into this at about 12 months also about the time she started daycare. Playing at a little table is currently one of her favorite activities
- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)?
She really started to enjoy these at about 13-14months she doesn't always use them "right" but she loves it!
- in a sandbox?
She is 18 months and just recenlty started playing in sand I am not sure how she would have felt about it before but she loooves it now. Watch out though, she also loves to try and eat the sand.

- with dolls?
Her grandma got her her first dolly for her first birthday she liked it and gave it lots of hugs, she loves stuffed animals just as much sometimes though
- on riding toys?
she also got her first riding toy for her first birthday (which we actuallys celebrated about a month early. She enjoyed it right away)

- with a toy kitchen?
Around 1 yr.
- at a children's table?
I don't know what you mean by this? We have a train table and he's played with trains on it since maybe 5-6 mos., when he started cruising.
- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)?
He's almost 18 mos. and can only recently be trusted to draw with crayons, on paper, instead of eating them or coloring walls.
- in a sandbox?
He's still not into sand. My oldest didn't like sand as a toddler, either.
- with dolls
He LOVES them now, and has for a few months... since around 1 yr.
- on riding toys?
Since he was tall enough to use ours-- around 13-14 mos. (he's short, though!)

- with a toy kitchen? 2nd dd - as soon as she could pull up to it! probably 9 or 10 months. She LOVES to "cook" and feed everyone and her dolls. My 1st DD was probably about 18 months.

- at a children's table? honestly, both of mine prefer thier booster seats at the big table!

- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)? 1st dd was doing these things around a year because she was mimicking the little girl I was nannying, same thing with my 2nd dd. I'm not sure how excited either would have been at that age without someone to emmulate.

- in a sandbox? they've both loved it from an early age, but couldn't be trusted to not eat the sand until 2

- with dolls? 2nd dd was probably about 6 months when she started to *love* dolls (hug them, want them, etc) and as soon as she had the motor skills she wanted to nurse them, give them food, wear them in the sling, etc. She's REALLY into her dolls! My 1st DD has never been a big doll fan, and she's now 3!

- on riding toys? we have several and dd2 really wants to ride them, but her feet don't touch the ground yet (at 14 months) so we wind up pushing her around, which is backbreaking work. I've seen a kind that's like a bike with a long handle for an adult to push - I'd get one of those!

I used both kids as an example because they were so different! Honestly, I think everything on your list is good for 12-24 month olds. You'll see what they love! I wish I could have saved alot of time and just bought my 1st dd nothing but books, dress-up clothes & art supplies by the carload, but my 2nd dd is getting tons of use out of all things pretend play.

- with a toy kitchen? 28 mths. She uses it appropriately, but also climbs on it sometimes.

- at a children's table? 10 months, but will also climb on it, even now. Loves it, though.

- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)? Fingerpaints about 18 mths. Playdoh we started at 14 mths or so, but she didn't really mold it or "play" with it. She liked pulling it out of the playdoh press as fast as I squished it, but still doesn't really play with it with her own ideas at 29 mths. Crayons at about 18 mths, but didn't see a difference between paper and the table.

- in a sandbox? 10 mths. Loves it. We used to play "bury your toes" and now we build sandcastles. There's something to do at just about any age in a sandbox. If you don't stress too much about them tasting the sand.

- with dolls? A little bit of creative play around 14 mths. Now at 29 mths she has conversations with them, puts them to bed, kisses them when they get hurt, etc. At 14 mths she mainly liked to pull their clothes off.

- on riding toys? 10 mths or so, but she was walking at 8 mths.

DS is 16 mo

- with a toy kitchen? I haven't finished cleaning his yet (I got it at a yard sale) but he seems ready for it

- at a children's table? He seems just as happy top play on the floor and it's one less thing to trip on. Also he would probably climb on it

- with art supplies (crayons, finger paint, playdough, etc)? He eats these I've stopped letting him use them b/c the blue purple and orange diaper changes worry me. I let him use my computer drwing tablet sometimes, but I wouldn't have bought it for him to scribble.

- in a sandbox? same as above

- with dolls? he has been playing with them since 10 or 11 mo. BTW He prefers puppets

- on riding toys? Since 8 or 9 mo
