I am about a year into going TF, inspired by NT, Wild Fermentation and The Fourfold Path to Healing.

I have been able to get hold of quite a lot of the recommended superfoods, but I am having trouble finding fermented cod liver oil. I live in Norway, and nobody sells it here. I have been in contact with Green Pasture in the USA who say they have a bad record of trying to send their products to Norway - they get stopped in customs for some reason. They do have a provider in another European country, but if I buy from them, then I will have to pay 25 % tax and lots of extra custom fees on top of the allready expensive products, and it all gets complicated.

Nordic Naturals I can get hold of, but they don't have fermented cod liver oil, neither do they have butter oil.

What would you do? Would you go through the extra trouble of importing and paying alot extra to get Green Pasture? How important do you consider this supplement to be?

I don't have any help to offer, just whoa, we're all paying to have norwegian CLO imported and you're there at the source and can't get it. That's ironic.

I think it depends on your main reasons for taking CLO. I live in Alaska, so similar climate to what you have there (My DH lived in Norway for a couple of years, and we joke that our moving here is because he missed it there). My ADHD son and pregnant/nursing me take fish oil for the omega 3s (DHA etc). However my other kids all take it too for the vitamin D since we don't get enough from sunlight. WAPF recommends getting the high vitamin/fermented CLO because it has more of the vitamins, but depending on your needs, you might not want to get the high vitamin version, you know? For myself, I'd rather NOT have high vitamin because I need the proportionally high dose of oils as well as the vitamins. For my kids though I do get high vitamin because they mostly need the D.
I hope that helps. Based on the fact that you're choosing CLO based on several resources/books, I presume that you don't necessarily just follow any one idea, but try to do a lot of research and form your own conclusions--those are the conclusions I've drawn for my family in regard to CLO, so maybe hopefully it will help you. That link has a list of recommended brands from WAPF. I know Carlson's is a norwegian company, so you might be able to get that there--I don't think it's fermented/high-vitamin, but it is good, and it doesnt' taste awful like some of them do.

Thanks for the good advice about thinking about what exactly I am taking it for!

Well - I am breastfeeding, and will be TTC in a short while, and my kids do not eat at all as varied as I would like them to.

I guess my biggest concern is that if I don't go through the trouble of importing from Green Pasture I won't be able to get hold of butter oil. And our winter is so long, so the period when the cows are out grazing is so short. I make our own butter from raw milk, but not enough to last us through the winter.

Exactly how big a difference there is between Nordic Naturals cod liver oil and Green Pastured Fermented stuff, I do not know. But I do think we would benefit from the butter oil. So, maybe that means I'll have to keep struggling with trying to import it, then?

Can you go through another company that sell green pastures online. I like renewed health supply. They are cheaper than green pastures since they have free shipping.

I obviously don't know which country you are talking about here but I am in the UK and get Green Pastures CLO from here. They have butter oil too and they do ship to Norway on a flat rate for up to 30kg I think so if it is not too expensive for you could be worth ordering in bulk from them. Don't know if you would still have other taxes etc on top of that. HTH!

I'm really sorry to crash the thread but I was just wondering if you might say a little more about this, if you have time/don't mind sharing. I am pregnant and nursing and currently taking the Green Pastures high vit stuff but would happily look into something else if it might be better/more beneficial.

Thanks very much!
