DS is just over a year old and 97% breastfed. The doc at his WBC flipped out because he barely eats any "real" food. (Thank God I'm intelligent and know that I know more about nutrition than he does.) But it got me wondering about when it becomes important for me to get more food into him. My intuition says not to worry until he is about 2. He gained 20 ounces, 1/4 inch in length and a half inch in his head in the last 3 months. Oh, and his HGB was 13! He looks healthy and beautiful and happy and wonderful, so I don't think I really need to worry, but just wanted to know ya'll's opinions on the issue. When should his diet become less dependent on breastmilk?

My Ds is 1 day older than yours. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> He insists on getting his solid foods several times a day now, but he still really spends more time playing with his food than eating it. He frequently puts bites in his mouth, chews, then spits it back out before getting another bite. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
His weight gain has really slowed down, but he is still gaining. Honestly, I am trying not to worry as long as I offer healthy foods regularly (twice daily now at least). I think the practice is good for him and he enjoys it, but I don't expect him to get much nutrition from any of it for the time being.
