Do you mean EPO?
If you're going to take it, you're supposed to start at like 37 weeks, if my shoddy memory serves me correctly. I don't take anything and won't. I trust my body to do what it's supposed to do. I hear the EPO thing works very well though. Good luck!

There's only been one study done on the effects of EPO on labor, and it showed that EPO might actually prolong and complicate labor! I'm due at the end of January, and I'm not planning to take it.

Someone asked exactly this question in a thread on the "I'm Pregnant" board about three weeks ago. There were several responses, which you might find helpful.

I just posted about this in the other thread. I took it orally at 35 weeks and then inserted 1-2 capsules at bedtime starting at 37 weeks. My ds was born at 38 weeks after a 2 hour and 45 minute labor, so I'll be doing the EPO again!

A week after I started inserting it, I went into labor. I don't know that there's an actual timing on it. It's more just about your body and your baby being ready, and the EPO just helps to ripen the cervix.

What is EPO? I mean, I can tell it's some sort of labor augmentation, but what form does it come in and where do you get it? Is it safe if you are a VBAC? Thanks for any info.

EPO is evening primrose oil. it is a capsule that you can take orally or vaginally (pierce the gel cap before inserting). It is a prostaglandin, just like semen, so if you are having sex one night, it is not necessary to use the EPO.

I don't know about VBAC, but I believe it is safer than Cervidil.

I think that is right. If anyone knows more-- post!

ANYTHING is safer than Cervadil Cervadil is EEEEVIL.

I don't know much about EPO in regards to VBACing though I know some VBACers have taken it (not sure whether orally or vaginally) You might ask about it on the VBAC board.

ETA that I am an idiot. CYTOTEC is evil. Cervadil is okay. DUH. My brain is sooo fried

Tara-- That's funny! I was going to correct you, but I wasn't sure if you had some info about Cervidil that I didn't know yet!!

I tried EPO orally & vaginally for two weeks and my cervix did not ripen one bit. I am trying for VBAC. As far as I know EPO only ripens your cervix, it doesn't cause contractions or anything like that. So, I don't think it is a problem if you are trying for VBAC.
