I'm a bit over 4 weeks. I was thinking about making an appointment with a midwife for next week or the week after that. Is that too soon? What's the standard time for a first midwife appointment?

I do not know what the standard is, but my homebirth midwife does not see clients until 12 weeks when you have a good chance of hearing the heartbeat.

I will see my midwife at 6 weeks. It is my choice and I want to see and visit with her~ we're friends . I may even have an u/s at that time because I want to see the heartbeat as I 've had 2 losses and I think I'll feel a little lighter once I see that sweet flicker.

It's pretty much whatever is her standard of care. My midwife is 3 hours away, so I probably won't see her until about 10 or 11 weeks, whenever I get out there. I do have a friend here in town who is a midwife who I can see if I really want to, but everything's fine and I feel... pregnant! (nauseated, tired, etc!)

on base here, once you have your pregnancy "confirmed" at their lab, they dont see you again til 10-12 weeks

I called my midwife the day I got my positive test results. She said she usually makes appointments for ten weeks or so, because we could hear the heartbeat then. However, she was more than willing to see us sooner if I had wanted. I think if it is helpful to mom to see the midwife sooner, it certainly isn't going to hurt anything!

I'd call ASAP and make an appt. for whenever is their standard. Here, I'll be seeing the m/w at 10 weeks, that's what they do, but if I hadn't called at 4 weeks I probably wouldn't have gotten in.

Here OBs see you the first time at 12 weeks, but you also have to call ASAP to get that appt.

I would call, they will make the appointment for the best time to be seen. I know the birth center I used last time didn't see anyone until after 8 weeks. It's best to call ahead because the initial visit is an hour and that needs to be scheduled ahead of time.
