I tried the sweet potato in a trash can thing, and its going great! The plant is full and healthy and has completely taken over a bunch of azalea shrubs next to the can. I'm just not sure when I should harvest my spuds. Do I wait till the vines stard to dry out in the fall? Is that to late? Lead me Oh Great and Mighty potato experts...

I planted mine late last year (late May/early June I think) and harvested them sometime in October. I don't recall the vines being dead--but I could be wrong. As long as you've given them 4 months to grow, they should be good and big. You can actually harvest them at any time--the size will just be different.
