We have a radian 80, and DD is almost 14 months old, long, and skinny. I still feel like there's too much extra space if I take the pads out, but she also seems too tall for the head-support pad. Are there any guidelines about this?

You can take them out whenever you want <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

In the 80 you can use the body support as a head pillow. So you can take it out and have some extra head support for her as well.

They must come out by 30 pounds. They aren't required, ever. If you want, you can take the head support part off and keep using the body part.
