Yes, imo, a diapering item can truly die.

Maybe try some hair conditioner to soften up the wool?

rough I can handle

this poor thing is naked- it has no fuzz on it anymore in parts

but it just deteriorated so quickly...... is that possible?

could shampoo bring the fuzz back?
