Hey ladies, just found out I am prego, due 24th of April(so that makes me prego and nursing as of now). So, I am back at it again trying to make sure to keep the diet even better this time around. I am wondering how everone is doing with the diet.

I have been eating liver weekly already so that is good.
Bone broths usually 1 or 2 x a week, but I am trying to increase that to daily.
As of now I have not been doing raw milk, but think I have a new source
Just started the coconut oil back up
Take clo daily
Use butter as well

However, I am having issue with the fish. There is no way we can afford wild salmon 2-4 x a week( I am going to have to travel 3 hrs to get some as it is). I cannot afford pastured beef and lamb everyday either, mostly we eat pastured chicken, pork and venison (dh hunts).

Oh, and if anyone has some good liver recipes I'm all ears, I only have 2 ways of cooking it frying it with onions, and pate. Would love something different.

Oh, and I am wondering anyone follow the rec. to put c.o. in their smoothies, man that is disgusting. Oil and water do not mix. I think it better to just eat it off the spoon

So, how is everyone else doing? Any thoughts, ideas? How are you feeling?

Oh, I love coconut oil in my smoothie. I make mine with banana, pineapple, coconut oil, ice and kefir or raw milk. Tastes like a pina colada! Yum!

How about the clumps, huh? Perhaps if I had made it with milk it wouldn't have been so noticeable. I do smoothies dairy free now as ds cannot tolerate dairy at all.

Hello,

I am newly pregnant with a nursing 3 yo dd. I am due only 2 days before you. Last time I gave birth exactly on my due date! Anyway, I am taking clo, eating lots of raw ghee, coconut milk, pastured pork/lard, broth, etc. etc. I am not doing the liver as much as I should. I am drinking alot of raw goat milk though, since we are milking our goats still. I was going to quit milking them to take a break for the fall/winter, but then I got pregnant and started craving milk, so it is back to work. Anyway, I usually eat liver in smoothies, raw. I don't like cooked liver. I blend some yogurt, honey, strawberries, avocado and liver in a blender and it comes out good, and my kids really like it too. Anyway, the raw liver has a fruity taste to it, believe it or not! lol. We don't do fish either, as we are also on a budget. We do eat some wild canned salmon though. We make salmon fritters out of it and dip it in some homemade ketchup. Anyway, I was having alot of symptoms right away and now they have backed off a bit, but that is typical for me during pregnancy. I am sure I will get pretty queezy though fairly shortly, probably at the 6 week mark. Anyway, congratulations!

I've done them without dairy, too. What clumps? I've never noticed any. Do you use ice?

I'm doing Sallon Fallon's and Mary Eing's (sp?) Eat Fat, Lose Fat while nursing my infant and 2 1/2 year old. I'm incorporating their *healing diet* into our lives and so far I have already lost weight that seemed like it would be forever stuck on my body!
This is what I'm doing most every day:

*Morning: 1/2c to 1 cup of kombucha and smoothie (raw milk kefir, c.o., sodium ascorbate/acerola, raw butter, flax seed oil, and fruit)

*Snack: Coconut milk tonic (can of coconut milk, can of water, little organic maple syrup and vanilla)

*Lunch: Sandwiches (egg salad, chicken salad, organic/nitrite/nitrate free lunch meat, quesadillas ...) and raw fruit or veggies

*Snack: Raw milk tonic (raw milk, egg yolk, molasses)

*Dinner: Chicken or pastured beef or fish (whatever we have and are in the mood for) cooked with co, veggies, small servings of grain or starch.

We also take our CLO with dinner (Blue Ice high vitamin), and I'm trying to remember to take about 1 T of co before each meal.

In terms of the co blending well, I've never had a problem. But it does have to be whipped pretty fast.

Ladies- don't forget the eggs, eggs, eggs! They're high in choline, vitamin a, lecithin, cholesterol, and even the WAP type are cheap! Okay, I'm nursing a 3 year old and a almost 3 month old. . . . I ate healthy while pg with dd1, but did WAP mostly with dd2. Dd2 is much mellower and more organized, and the whole pg and birth were easier, and the difference in how I feel now/ felt at 2 months post partum the first time are phenomenal. Fish oil is amazing stuff.

oh, how could I forget the eggs
I have usually 4 for breakfast.

Well, I guess I am inept at making smoothies with coconut oil. I never use ice, but usually use some frozen fruit and fresh fruit, some type of greens and some 100% fruit juice. The co just kind of floated to the top, it all mixed together well, but then separated quickly.

Rebekah, that is awesome that you have goats. Dh and I seriously considered getting some for about a year, but I really didn't think we had the dedication. I am wondering where do you get the canned wild salmon and what's the price. Perhaps I could do that instead. I almost tried the liver raw today, but didn't have the nerve. Instead I made some extra super yummy pate, that both ds and I scarfed down. I am just now starting to get the queasiness, unfortunately. How is your nursing going? Ds still nurses a ton, but it seems to not be bothering me or my supply yet, so I am hoping it isn't an issue.

Oh ya, we eat alot of eggs too. We raise ducks, and really love their eggs, but they tend to stop laying when it gets really hot out, so then we have to settle for store bought chicken eggs.

I never put coconut oil in smoothies, as it makes me queezy. Especially now that I am in early pregnancy, I know I couldn't stomach it. I do use coconut milk with some lemon juice in my smoothies as a yogurt replacement. I can't really tell the difference.

My daughter is hardly nursing at all right now, maybe twice a day, so it really isn't an issue. My older daughter nursed through my second pregnancy alot more frequently, and I seemed to do okay with it then. We get the canned salmon from a coop we belong to, Azure Standard. I think they are just for the west coast though. I imagine you could find some at a health food store or something though. We also do sardines alot. They aren't supposed to have much contamination at all. They are kind of smelly though. lol

Maybe your smoothie isn't cold enough to solidify the co? I know that I put mine in the blender on top of the frozen strawberries and it solidifies pretty quickly. That way it stays mixed in the whole time. Maybe try coconut cream from Tropical Traditions? It still contains something like 70% oil, but it seems to blend in really easily.

I know I need to up the eggs ... I have at least one yolk a day, but don't always have them otherwise (though we are trying to do either fried/poached/scrambled/hardboiled eggs each day). But, we can go through a dozen eggs in like 2 days! So it does get a little costly (though not nearly as much as we pay for raw milk).

Hello!
I am nursing my 4 month old right now and trying to transition to the NT way of eating. I have pretty much cut out refined foods from my diet. I am taking CLO almost every day.... hard to remember for me for some reason. I have my kefir grains going strong and we've been having kefir smoothies often and using it for soaking pancakes and other things. I haven't gotten to the point of eating liver (can't stomach the idea yet). And I've always had a problem with eggs, I just don't like them..... I 'know' they are one of the few perfect foods and I need to get over that!!!! Any ideas on that?? As for coconut oil, I will use it in cooking but haven't 'taken' it as a supplement yet. Besides smoothies how do you take it usually? I just bought 80 lbs (a split half) of grass fed beef and I'm buying pastured chickens and eggs when I can. It's a slow process but we're moving forward...... You all seem to be doing great!!!

ok I do need colder smoothies I guess

Amber= How about putting eggs in french toast? That is one of the big ways I got them down last pregnancy when every thing else grew boring. I would just make the misture mostly eggs, a little milk, cinnamon, vanilla (homemade of course
and honey, and of course it would hopefully be your own homemade bread
Or obviously you can use them in a pancake recipe. I just make the mix the night before and let it soak, super easy and then you have soaked grains. I am so jealous of your beef mmmmm

Amber, your beef sounds delicious! I too sometimes have issues with eggs (consistency/texture problem), but do love them fried! What about adding 1-2 yolks to your smoothie or doing a raw milk or coconut smoothie at snack time (raw milk, egg yolk, molasses)? Oh, and the only way I've been able to remember our CLO for the entire family lately is to serve it at dinner time. That is when I can guarantee we will all be sitting down together, and also it helps to absorb the nutrients in our food.

Crunchy mama - your french toast sounds great. I think I'll do that tonight with sourdough and have it for breakfast tomorrow.

I am nursing my 2 1/2 year old dd and am newly pregnant with my third dc. I am taking CLO and butter oil, eating lots of pastured eggs, chicken and beef, daily greens (mostly Kale and collards), 2-3 glasses of raw milk every day, homemade yogurt and egg yolk smoothies, saurkraut and pickled beets, and I am completely addicted to fresh blueberries and dark chocolate. I am not yet feeling sick, but am wondering if I will still be able to stomach the CLO when I do. I don't have any beef soup bones left, and won't be getting another quarter of beef until early Oct, so I guess chicken stock will have to do until then. I also hope to get extra liver in October, but am thinking about adding in some dessicated liver tablets in the meantime.

This will be my first NT pregnancy. I am really hoping these changes in diet will help with the morning sickness and fatigue.

I found out yesterday, although I had suspected it for the last week or so. My due date is May 2.

the other Amanda= we found out here exactly 1 week ago!

Jessica, I am really wondering how this good diet will affect the sickness etc as well. I am just now at 5 weeks, so it is a bit early to say for sure. However, I do think that I have definitely more energy so far and have not had the nausea yet like I did before. Last time it started about 10 dpo. I never did have real bad nauseau, but not having it at all would be even better.

You ladies are so reminding me that I have got to get off my butt and get some more raw milk. My 2 sources are both 2 hrs away, so it will be no easy thing. I am thinking that I will make mine into a very low sugar ice cream, kefir and yogurt to get those servings down everyday.

Does anyone know about how much bone broth you are supposed to have at a time? What's a serving size? Should you have a cup a day, 1/2 cup?

Also did you ladies see in the CLO thread I posted a place to get the Blue Ice CLO? for 15.90 for just 1 bottle?

About 17 weeks here. I'm just starting to come out of my nausea and into cooking and meal prep again. For a good long while, we were surviving on junk and I couldn't do a thing about it, I felt so awful. I am pretty well into NT and had great hopes I wouldn't suffer much, but I did. Oh well.

Now I try to get eggs and get back into my CLO habit. I'll soon have a raw cow's milk source, too! So, I'm kinda slowly making my way back, but am definitely on my way!
