Just had to 'boast' a bit. Ds and I were talking about evolution last night, and about the origin of things. He asked if there was a time where there wasn't any light on earth, so I was trying to explain the Big Bang Theory. (Why do these conversations happen at 9:45 pm when we're reading completely unrelated material?)

And guess who piped up with a relatively accurate account of how the sun was formed? DD! She's not yet 5. I have NO idea where she got this, but I strongly suspect the Magic School Bus. Maybe TV isn't all that bad.

Dd, more than ds, amazes me with how she learns things by osmosis some times. She's a good reminder that little ears are always listening. She told me the other day "Oh, I know about calcium. Daddy said when he was on the phone that Grandma has calcium in her blood." (Grandma has multiple myeloma, and is having issues with calcium from her bones getting into the blood stream.)

I know what you mean. They are like sponges, so even when we don't think they are paying much attention, they turn around and surprise us. It's amazing how close to being able to take old information and apply it to new situations. It's pretty neat to see it happen though.

DS loves MSB. Have you seen the CD Roms? They are really great. They're no longer being made (AFAIK), but can be found on ebay and library.

Brainpop is our latest passion as far as facts and theories acquisition.

MSB is awesome. For a slightly more "tearcherly" approach to science on television, we like Sid the Science Kid at our house too.

And, if she likes MSB, the books are good, too. I like the books because they have them at several different reading levels with sidebars that kids can read if they are interested and skip if they aren't.
