I have a 2.5yr old son who has always slept with us and now we want to buy him his own bed for his own room for whenever he decides he is ready to sleep alone (we are in no rush for this but want him to have a bed so he can make the decision) I looked at kids beds online (Ikea, etc) but they all look too small for us to fit in and we want to make sure that one of us can crawl in there with him when necessary
What do others do in this situation? We would like to avoid just putting a mattress on the floor (we have all been sleeping on 2 queens side by side in our room) because we want him to have a "real" bed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Why not just get a full size bed? We inherited 2 full size beds when my grandmother died. We got new mattresses for them and they became our kids' beds. My kids never had kids' beds or twin beds. My 2 dds shared a full bed after they left the family bed together when they were 5 and 7 yrs old. After 3 yrs of this they finally started sleeping alone.

Thanks for both your replies
I guess I just thought a regular bed would be too high off the ground and also the bed rails we have don't go high enough because regular mattresses are so thick. Hmm...I didn't think of a futon. Funny since we slept on one for years. Thanks again!
