I was at a WIC appt. today (of course, I don't expect to see anything but pro-vax stuff there, but...) and I noticed a poster on the wall that says "2-3 million children die of vaccine-preventable diseases every year..."

Where do they get numbers like that? And if they're true, what are the specifics surrounding them?

I guess they simply count all kids in Africa and the rest of the world who died as having died because they were not vaccinated.

Would they have lived if they were in fact vaccinated? That is anyone's guess. I would say they would have starved to death or died of disease anyway.

So sad that they make money off their deaths rather than send food and provide clean water.

Business as usual.

:

It is obviously a 'world' figure, which should be taken into perspective.

http://www.unicef.org/sowc04/files/Table1.pdf

Currently there are around 2 billion children under 15 in the world (a rough estimate from elsewhere). Annual under 5 mortality figure (2002 data) is over 10 million children. According to UNICEF, about 54% of childhood mortality is associated with malnourishment. That's 5.4 million children. According to the same UNICEF, about 1.5 million children die every year because they are not breastfed. And yes, most of it all happens in the third world countries, as 'industrialized countries' bear about 76 thousand of these over 10 million - less than 1%. Plus, there is no mention that these '2-3 million children dying of VPDs every year' are not vaccinated, is there :? When you get global figures, they will look big, and that's exactly what these posters are trying to do - showing you 'the big picture'... or their choice of it's parts...

yeah, I would expect that of a WIC office. Probably counted a bunch of third world deaths, even though they may very well have died regardless of vaccines.

The WIC office here has a poster that says "Vaccination: The only True love" :

The CDC, who "partners" with WIC in order to increase immunization compliance rates, routinely uses global mortality figures in order to scaremonger parents. It's actually an extremely effective marketing strategy and they know it.

Even the WHO admits that children "don't die of measles itself," but in un/underdeveloped countries, measles is an added assault on their already fragile immune systems and their immune systems are fragile because they live in un/underdeveloped countries.

What better way to scare a parent into the MMR (or any vaccine) --- just tell them 500,000 children die of measles annually and conveniently leave out the fact that almost every death occurs in un/underdeveloped countires.
