We live in Southern maine - near the NH border and we're looking for a place to vacation this summer. For no more than a week. We'd like someplace mellow and near the water hopefully. We really don't know where to look so ANY ideas are welcome! Thanks!!!!

we vacation where you live : usually in York. We're going to Poland this year though (I guess it's like 30 mins outside Portland) to a lake house. You could go to Acadia, it's beautiful up there or Lake Sebago is nice too.

We vacation on Lake Winnipesaukee. DH spent years there at camp and it's a favorite for him. This year, we've rented a house that is not on the lake, but in a community with a community beach, boat landing, etc. It was much cheaper than on the water, of course, so we'll see. We love Lake W. We just hang out at the beach, on the water, go to the dairy barn, visit the local playgrounds, etc. We may go to Story Land this year. And I love visiting the awesome quilt shop in Center Harbor (I think it's Center Harbor).

Although, I also love Acadia National Park! Gorgeous. We are hoping to go camping there in September for a weekend.

We got to Popham Beach near Bath. This will be our 3rd year in July. It is wonderful, not touristy at all and we love it.

hi! we found a place last year that is so great we are going again this year and every year till we're sick of it! it's in Nh in the lake winn area. i think its called the silver lake area???

http://www.vrbo.com/76782

it's a beautiful home, practically brand new with very nice *everything* and its a 2min walk to a really lovely, small, private beach which is perfect for little ones as its so shallow for quite a ways out. last year we went with our family (myself,dh and dd5 then) and our friends with 2 adults and a 2yo. it was wonderful - the house is big enough for everyone to have their own space and theres a great deck and the dh's took the girls to storyland one day. big kitchen with everything you could need was a bonus as well.

great vacation for all and affordable, too. plus pretty close to home for us, not sure how far it would be for you but its definetly worth a look! just don't try to take our week!!! j/k!!

Our family uses this company for Lake W.

http://www.preferredrentals.com/

We are staying in the Suissevale community this year. My DH's family has been vacationing on Lake W. forever (since MIL was a girl), and they like that area of the lake. Cousins stayed in Suissevale last year and liked it - nice community sandy beach, playground, etc. We stayed somewhere else last time, which was awesome but expensive. So we'll see come July!

We go to Acadia every fall- it's really nice right after labor day when the crowds have left and the biking and hiking are wonderful. A friend rents 2 cottages, 3bdrms in nice shape, on a small quiet lake across from the park. The kids love the canoe, swimming docks, hammock and swingset that come with it. Very private, very reasonable.

Here's the link.

We visit friends on Lake W. a few times, and we find it's pretty crowded and can be touristy. You can probably find your own little spot there but it's pricey to be on the water.
