The Lion's Brand Fisherman's wool is supposed to be good. So far I have ordered all of my yarn from Theresa at Little Turtle Knits

Good luck!

I buy the 100% Fisherman's wooll (Lion Brand) out here in the Pacific NW I buy it at Fred Meyer...I can't think of anything from our PA days that could help you out...it is a grocery store/ department store (kinda KMartish). I am wondering if WallMart or Kmart would have it? Hopefully someone from the East Coast will answer.

I've been using the Fisherman's Wool for soakers and it works well. I started using it because it's natural-colored and I wanted to do Kool-Aid dyeing, but I keep using it because it's pretty soft.

Why didn't you like the Fisherman's Wool?

My suggestion would be to check your Yellow Pages for a yarn store and venture on in there. The yarn will be more expensive, though. Especially if you have that 50% off coupon for Jo-Ann fabrics and can get the FW for $4.50.

I've used Cascade 220 for soakers and it's worked well. Galway would be good, Brown Sheep Naturespun worsted would be good as well, but you may need to adjust gauge as it's a thinner yarn. What else... Woolpak 8-Ply has good yardage for a reasonable price (probably 450 yds for $14-15) and nice colors.

If you end up buying a white or natural-colored wool and want to dye it, there's a lot of Kool-Aid dyeing info here. Lots of fun!

Anyway, I digress-I'd be happy to set up a playdate to bring you some yarn I've no idea what you've got up that way in terms of shops, I think there's one in Phoenixville.
