Our newest turns 3 months old on Thursday. At night, he starts out in a mini-co sleeper attatched to our bed, then we bring him right in with us around 3am. During the day we have had a hard time. For awhile I was holding the baby the whole time while he slept, or laying with him on our bed(which didn't work well with my almost 4 year old ds running around, and I obviously needed to be with him too!). I have worn the baby in the sling for his naps before, but this does start to hurt my back after awhile. Right now he's napping in his swing. Or we try swaddling him and then rocking him to sleep and putting him in the co-sleeper to nap. I'm too afraid to let him sleep alone on the big bed, since he might roll over(soon!) and I wouldn't be there(the few times I have let him nap on our bed, I was running in there every 2 minutes to check on him, literally!). What does everyone else do for naps?

Wow! Good questions. Hey, I see you are from WA too--COOL! Any ways, we bought rails at Target that slip under the matress, so that our babies could nap on our bed. No tools needed--they literally just slip under the mattress. I do not remember how much they costed--but we put the bed agains the walls so that we only had to frame in two sides of the bed. The right side and the end. It worked well--no falls yet!
I hope this helped some! I am sure some more mamas will have more ideas! Have a great day!!

When they were teeny tiny were you afraid they would roll over and have their face in the mattress and not be able to get back over? That is my big fear right now since he could roll any day. And when they could crawl,did they ever scooch around the bed so much that they got down under the covers or to the part that the rails didn't protect? Lots of questions,lol.

hmmm...well, we usually just kept a quilt on the bed that I would strip off during nap time, so that good rid of the blankets, I use the new blanket sleepers that go on over the clothes so I don't need to put blankets on the baby (found them at Wal-Mart) our mattress is firm, so if she rolls over (when she does) she wont suffocate. And we stuffed our small couch pillows in the one corner that the rails didn't cover. The ONE THING I would worry about is when they start to pull themselves up because they can flip headfirst over the rails----maybe you could invest in a crib JUST for nap time? I'm not sure how you feel about cribs. We have one, but it seems to be a place for my to store boxes in...lol What about a play-pen for naps? Do they even make play-pens any more? I haven't seen any in stores. I hope I have given you some good ideas.

We got rid of the crib we had for our older ds because he hated it so much(we had a water bed when he was a baby and he didn't sleep with us. by the time we got a regular bed, he was in a toddler bed and didn't even want to sleep with us.)We were hoping to not get a crib this time. He napped in the swing every time yesterday...and playpens are still made, but I just see him loving that as much as he'd probably love a crib,lol.

Now Kailey sleeps on the family bed, and has for month of her toddler time.

When she was a new infant she slept where ever i was at in the house. We stayed in a 2 story town home with the bedrooms upstairs, so if I was downstairs she slept either on the floor on a thin blanket, or in a bassinet(never used for night time
)

I c ould see how having your babe sleep on the floor would pose a problem with your 4 yr old running around, but have you thought about a bassinet? Ours was only 50 dollars and most times I took it off its legs and it just sat on the floor(this was it had sides but wasn't a tipping over hazard).

We do have a bassinet. He isn't fond of that either. I wish my older one would still take a nap, then all 3 of us could snuggle in bed and sleep!!!!

I too have a 4yr. old boy running around (and a 5yr.old boy) so I schedule their "play outside time" while ella naps. If they're not outside they are playing quietly--drawing, puzzles, lego's, books--in the opposite end of the house. Ella has napped on the couch since day 1. I lay on my side and nurse her to sleep, then lay a pillow beside her so she doesnt roll off. Then I go about my housework, or boys schoolwork, whatever.
Also, do you have a baby monitor? I have a cheapo one and its so sensitive i can hear her breathing. I keep it with me at all times. A couple of weeks ago we had to stop letting her sleep on the couch because i came in to check on her and she had woken up and climed onto the end table to read my magazines
: So now she sleeps on my bed for naps, but at the first peep I hear in the monitor I run up to get her.

When our ds was just a baby (until about 4-5 months), he napped in his carseat. Later he napped on a futon mattress which was on the floor - I would lie with him and nurse him to sleep. After a few minutes, I would just roll away.

Now we have a new ds, who is 5 weeks old... She too is napping in the carseat...
