For the last 3 days my DS has consumed more food than I have ever seen in his entire life. He's a big kid for his age, almost 40lbs. and 38 inches the last time I measured. He's still nursing once every few days but has not had an increased demand to nurse. Every other sentence is "I'm hungry" and when offered food he wolfs it down. He tells me what he's hungry for and it's often a wide variety so he's not picky about what he wants. Is this typical toddler growth or is there something else going on that I should be concerned about? On Sunday he ate 3 pancakes, an orange, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, some cheese, tortilla chips with hummus and dip all before noon. He also ate lunch and dinner with lots of begging in between, and then had more fruit and oatmeal at bedtime. Yesterday was much the same.

Today he's already had eggs, sausage, potatoes and peppers, a bagel, yogurt, and is still asking for more and it isn't even 11. I don't think I'll be able to afford our grocery bill once he hits puberty if this is what he eats like now

Sounds like a growth spurt to me. DS does this every 4 to 6 months, we have a week to a month where I wonder when my 2 year old was possessed by a teenager, and then he'll go back to his normal eating habits.

Growth spurt! My daughter does this every 4-6 months too. She's newly 5 right now and the tallest one in her pre-school class and there is only 1 Kindergartener taller than her and a handful of 1st graders too. And she's going through another spurt right now so I'm willing to be she'll outgrow the Kindergartner by the end of the year. It sure makes buying uniforms fun (she goes to a private Catholic school.)
