I have two things coming up in May that require me to leave my 3 year old with someone. The first is our first consult with a fertility clinic which requests that no children come to the office to be sensitive to other patients. That will only be for a couple of hours. The second, however is from 9 am until whenever. I've been summoned for jury duty.

I don't know what to do about the jury duty thing. Most times I would ask my MIL to watch my dd, unfortunately she is going to be traveling all of may, so I can't ask her. For most things I just bring my daughter with me, but those two places are just going to be possible.

I've been meaning to start looking for some temporary type child care, but I can't afford much as we live quite simply for me to be able to stay at home with my daughter. We haven't really connected with many moms in the general area. Most of my friends either work, or have their own children and commitments. I asked my father, but he is self employed and wouldn't commit to the day.

I don't even really know where to look. And it is a long time to leave a child with a stranger. Argh! Sorry I guess this is a kind of a vent along with a cry for suggestions.

If they have their own kids that's fine, yours could join the family for the day if anyone could work them in, go ahead and ask anybody possible for that. My friend from church who has a girl my son's age and lots of school aged kids takes my son whenever we need her to pretty much, and we pay her for it. I had pretty good luck posting on a local AP board to find someone before, we had a playdate/interview to get to know each other before we hired this mom to watch DS. She was a great caregiver though she was uncomfortable with how upset DS (still an infant then) got to be without me.

I actually phoned the sherrif's office and he said I should just write a letter and I might be able to get out of it.

I talked to my MIL today and she actually told one of her friends about my plight and is actually offering to take K for the afternoon. So I think this is possibly sorted. My DD loves this lady and I trust her so it is a perfect thing. I just hope she can

My county has an online form that you fill out when you get your jury summons, and if you have a child at home under 1 yr you get an automatic exemption, provided you're the caretaker, of course. I'd def write a letter--my summons came w/ a sheet to fill out which outlined exemptions, I just did it online to save a stamp.
