mason jars are so expensive for shipping. Is there any local places, such as retail stores or outlets that sell them anywhere. I have not found any. Or does anyone know any places with really cheap shipping.

I've seen them at both our local Kroger's and at Walmart. I want to say I got about 10 for 10 dollars, which made me pretty happy. If your grocery has a canning area (look next to the freezer bags and/or in the baking section for a start) they might be there--although I've also noticed that the more "country" a given store, the more likely they are to carry them (i.e., I live in an urban area, but in a part of it that's close to the edge of town and a lot of farmland. So I think that explains some of the availability).

Good idea. Even if you just find the jars, you can pick up packs of lids at Wal-mart, etc.

There is a small, old fashioned grocery/hardware store near me that sells mason jars. Maybe you have something similar?

I find them at local grocery stores, hardware stores, WalMart.

Though most of mine I have gotten from 2 different older folks who move or died.

I also find them at yard sales thrift shops and advertised in the local stuff for sale paper.

Ooo! I live in Meijer land!
I haven't checked this week's sale flier yet, so I didn't know they were on sale this week. Thanks for the heads up!
