my dd who is 16 mos old is obsessed with the potty and imitating mommy so we've started some very relaxed potty training..the only problem is that i can't find training pants or undies any smaller than size 2T anywhere. she can be diaper free at home, but once she starts being dry more often i don't want to still be putting her in a diaper when we go out. she'd need around size 12 mos right now and i just can't find anything. i would try to sew something, but i know myself...by the time they're finished she'll be in a size 2T<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> any suggestions?

Hanes seem to run small. Once washed and tried my 4t wears a 6-8! the 2T is what my niece wears and she is barely a 2.

I got a pack of gerber training pants, size 18 mos. (24-28 lbs.) at Babies-r-us just the other week. Oddly enough though, when I looked online at Babies-r-us, it didn't show up. Good luck, and they are definately out there. Call some stores (target, babies-rus, other dept. stores close ot you) to check before going.

JcPenney's Wee Essentials training pants, size 2T, have a nice fit and will shrink a little bit if you wash and dry them on hot. I liked them a lot better than the Gerbers, both in terms of fit and quality of fabric. If you do sew a bit, you might be able to just run a quick seam up each side, which you could rip out later. You might also find that they fit as-is, because kids' growth slows quite a bit, so a 2-year-old really isn't much bigger than a 1-year-old in many cases. The Wee Essentials fit my son when he was around 15 months old, and he's no giant.
