I agree with this. Same thing happened to me. Mine was too low, and I almost didn't get to have a homebirth if I didn't get my iron up, but after a bottle of Floradix it was up above the threshold level. I think I paid over $30 locally, and tried looking online, but after shipping I couldn't find anything significantly better priced.<br><br>
If you're pregnant, I recommend definitely getting the Floradix, but something that's helped me sooooo much since I've had my baby is having a fruit and spinach smoothie ~2x/week. It's just a couple handfuls of spinach, frozen mixed fruit, a frozen ripe banana for sweetness, some whole-milk yogurt, and a splash of milk. IT DOESN'T TASTE LIKE SPINACH! I know it sounds terrible, but you it really just tastes like a delicious fruit smoothie. A friend of mine said it's the best smoothie she's ever had.<br><br>
We have a Sam's Club so it's not too expensive: 1lb of fresh organic baby spinach $4, 6lbs frozen pinapple/strawberries/peaches/mango $8. I get the Stonyfield organic whole milk plain yogurt from the grocery store for $3 a quart (after a 50-cents-off coupon printed from their website, then doubled by Kroger), and bananas at the going rate- I just buy more than what we'll eat before they get over ripe and then peel them & break them into pieces and freeze them. This will make quite a few smoothies with all these ingredients. The spinach stays good a couple weeks or more in my fridge, and the fruit lasts 6 months or more frozen. I can probably get ~8 smoothies out of a quart of yogurt, but you can also make your own yogurt (with pasteurized milk) in your crockpot very easily.<br><br>
Sorry if I got too off topic, but if you like/tolerate smoothies, this may be something to try. I was already good at eating a pretty iron-rich diet, but still my iron stayed chronically low. I don't know if it's the spinach/fruit combo or the spinach/yogurt or what, but somehow this helps my body absorb it much better and I've been a totally different person since I've had them. I haven't felt this good since I WAS on Floradix, actually.<br>
