I am using a soaker pattern that does not have short rows in and I would like to add them. Where abouts would you put them? I am knitting a newborn size right now, if that helps. TIA

For a newborn size I would start them about 2-3" from your cast on row.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

For small sized soakers, I add them every 3-4 rows (using worsted weight yarn, or about every 1") until I start decreasing.<br><br>
My first row is exactly as wide as half the soaker (between my 2 hip markers which are at the beginning of my round, and then halfway across). For the next short row, I move in 2 stitches from each hip marker - so it is a total of 4 stitches shorter than my first short row. I keep moving in 2 stitches at a time for each short row until I start decreasing at which point I no longer add short rows.

I do them starting at varying inches from the top (depending on the size) and I do them every row, again depending on the size of the item. I use Japanese short row technique. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">
