Hey Mamas,

Dh and I are looking into computer filters. I know there are different types out there, and not every filter filters out the same things. I think the main thing we would like to have filtered is porn. But can filters also filter out hate sites and sites that depict a lot of violence? Are there filters that prevent online chatting?

If you would respond and let me know which filters you use and/or that you think are good, I'd really appreciate it.

I use the Norton Internet Security Professional (the home edition is basically the same). It has a firewall ( I have cable internet), antispam, antivirus and a filter that works really well for us. You can choose what categories you want/don't want blocked and you can also block/permit individual sites. I think all of the things you mentioned are categories you can choose from. You can also customize settings for individual users, and designate which setting you want it to start up in. It seems to work well for us. Sometimes I think the categories are a bit too strict--the worst so far is blocking adoption sites as sex ed--but I really haven't been able to get to places that were supposed to be blocked.
