DD has chubby little thighs and we are having problems with red marks that sometimes take up to 24 hours to go away. This is happening with AIO that are bound with FOE and diaper covers bound with FOE. Anything else seems to be okay. Occassionally I have problems with diapers that have elastic in a casing, because the elastic pulls right up against her legs. My question is, what kind of diaper covers work best for chubby legs and short rise babies. I have tried proraps and do not like them for us. We are currently sing Kushies, and they work okay. I made a few diaper covers myself, but they really dig into her legs. The Kushies only leave mildly red marks. I have not tried wool for two reasons. 1. I'm afraid it will be too bulky. 2. It costs so much for just one cover. I have some windpro coming in the mail soon, and I think I may try making some covers from that with no binding, but I was wondering if there were any regular (PUL) diaper covers that anyone likes for their chubby legged babies?

My dd was a very chubby baby and with her, no PUL covers worked. I wasn't online then, and used arsitocrats during the day. Bulky, yes- but they were breathable and left no red marks. Wool soakers are still my preference, or some soft wool snap covers.

Do you guys find wool covers to be more bulky? I have been wanting to try one, but I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it. I don't want dd to have the biggest butt around, even if it is just a bunch of cloth! I already have trouble finding pants to fit her, and I don't want to make the problem worse.

For pul, I'd suggest litewraps (don't expect these to last for more than one kid though
) or bumpy. Bumpy wool might be a good trim wool to try if your dd isn't a terribly heavy wetter SP wool is also relatively trim but has a longish rise.

Used wool covers are a really cheap way to go because as long as you take care of them you can often re-sell them for almost your buying price. So they actually come out cheaper than buying new or used PUL.

PUL left red marks on Cole, too. I switched to wool and it has worked great for us.

Some wool covers are bulky, true - but some are not, like Fuzeasy and Freshies! They can be expensive but you can find them used a lot on the TP and on Ebay. For me they were worth it - I will never go back to PUL.

We like nylon pull on covers like bummis or the babie r us brand. Thet're inexpensive and trim under clothing. We also like wool for night mostly though I have one very trim day cover I want to try but it needs to dry (DH used it inside another wool cover instead of a dipe :LOL). I would stay away from turned/topstitched wool covers though. My DD has chubky thighs and while the serged covers are fine our one t/t wool left a mark that took over a month to fade
. I've been hesitant to try foe for that reason.

We have red mark issues too and DD isn't chubby, but she does have beefy thighs compared to her waist, so to make things fit in the waist usually makes it too tight in the thighs. You HAVE to try one of the lightweight wool covers from Fluffymail.com, OMG these things are the bomb, they don't feel like wool, they feel like a t-shirt, they're so soft. And NO red marks. They're also extremely trim, which is a must because I'm a trimness freak! A non wool cover that's worked for us is the Bummis whisper pants, they have super soft bindings. Oh yeah, Bumpy Days (and wool) have worked great for us too. HTH!

what is the name of the lightweight t-shirt like cover at fluffymail.com? it sounds great, I went to their website but am still confused about which one you were referring to?

These are good suggestions and I second the recc. for Bumpy Day and wool covers.

My 2 year old, when he was an infant, had relatively beefy thighs, and the following PUL covers worked well for her:

Bumkins (vented) covers
Bumpy day (or night) covers

These didn't work so well, leaving ugly red marks:

Motherease Airflows
Bummis wraps, pull ons, and super snaps
Proraps
Dappis

On the wool issue: I'd respectfully suggest that you not worry about the size of your DD's butt. If you're lucky, you'll have a few more years until she starts worrying about it. If she's more comfortable in wool (and I suspect that she will be), isn't that what matters? Besides, as other people have said, wool is not neccessarily more bulky (although no wool cover I have is as trim as a bumpy day, the only PUL cover that I use occasionally).

I think you will love wool soakers for their comfort. I've tried many wool soakers and what I prefer, because I think they are so comfortable, is a wool soaker where the legs are knitted so they round up softly, and don't bind. Kool Sheep Soakers are awesome in this respect (and every other, IMO), see her gallery at:

I'd recommend trying a wool soaker to see how you like it. If you don't, as someone else has said, you can easily sell it for at or close to your purchase price.

They're the ones that say "lightweight wool jersey" under the picture. They're awesome!

I am not self-conscious for her at all. The issue is that I'm already having trouble finding pants and sleepers to fit over her c'ded bottom. So I don't want to go even bulkier. She is 5 months old and around 17 lbs. and I have to use 12 month pants and these usually are way too long.

You mentioned Dappi on your list of covers that leave ugly red marks. I am curious as to which Dappis these are (wrap or pull ons). My son is very chubby (click on "Sebastian" to see what I mean
) and Dappis PULL ONS are basically THE ONLY covers that DON'T leave red marks. Dappi WRAPS on the other hand are very bad...
