Hi all!

I am thinking of adding some pocket diapers to my stash. Right now, I have only been using prefolds/covers at home and disposables when I go out with DD. I want to completely stop using disposables, so I was thinking of adding fitted diapers and some pockets for when we go out.

I have been looking at Happy Heinys and Swadlebee's. Anyone use these? Which pockets do you use/recommend? Also, can you use the prefolds as inserts for the pocket diapers or do you have to buy them seperately?

Thanks for any input!

I am in the exact position. We stopped using disposables a while back but I wanted an alt to my diaper service prefolds so I am trying to build my stash as well. I have 1 HH which worked great the first time but now it leaks all the time. I am sure it is something with my water/wash routine. I have decided to go with BumGenius 2.0. We bought 2 to start and my DH loves them. I just ordered 3 more today.

I've tried fb, hh, and snap-ez. I like the trimness of fb but find hh a little softer. Snap-ez are my favorites, adn now that the fb price went up, snap-ez aren't really much more expensive. They're just REALLY nice quality, and just as trim.

My entire pocket stash are Fuzzi Bunz...I tried Happy Hieney's but they were strictly day use only for my heavy wetters!! FB's come with inserts, but you can use prefolds/doublers in them as well. (It does make them kind of bulky if you do that though)....anyway, we love them and use them exclusively for my DD and as nighttime diapers for my toddler....(with the big ole' thirsty doublers...)

Okay, we have tried lots of pockets and first I will have to agree with the pp that you can stuff with prefolds. I have found that infant prefolds are really the best pocket stuffer! So, if you already have them you don't need to buy a whole stash of inserts. So, here is the order in which I grab my pockets...
1) Bum-ware www.bum-ware.com
2) Swaddlebees (used to grab first, but I am still using mediums even though I really need to get some larges, they are a really trim and cute pocket dipe and I love their hemp inserts)
3) GAD www.greenacredesigns.com
4) HH (I like the HH and actually it is fitting better these days, but the velcro is a bit shot and I have fallen in love with snaps.
I bought and sold my BG 2.0 and Haute pockets because I didn't like the one-size style
I tried FB but the snaps kept turning in and leaving marks on my son's skin
I LOVED my snap-ez, but we outgrew it and I can't afford to buy more.

My stash is almost entirely bG OS pockets, with a few fitteds for around the house and a cover, just in case, and a couple of bG AIOs for sitters. I have been really, really pleased with them thus far, and like that they are one-sized (although I do doubt they would work for a tiny newborn). I have heard some things about pilling on the tabs (has happened a little), but I consider that just cosmetic and haven't had a problem with it. I have also heard about wicking, but again, it hasn't happened to us.

I am a total bG convert--it's what made a cloth diapering mama out of me!

Good luck deciding!

Here's what we've tried: Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heineys, BumGenius OS, Haute Pockets OS, & Knickernappies.

Knickernappies are my current faves. I really love these diapers. (Customer service at Cloth Diaper Outlet is great, too!) They are trim and I love the way they fit and snap. For those, I did find that the Loopy-Do inserts seem to work best, so you have to buy them separately. Personally, I think it was worth it b/c these inserts are great!

We liked Fuzzi Bunz, they seemed to hold up well. It seems that the sizing is pretty inconsistent, though. I had smalls that were different sizes. Also, DD was not able to go from small to medium in these for some reason. She is long and lean so the rise on the small was way to low, but the med was still too big in the waist and legs. Still, these are good diapers. But you may want to read up on their business practices, if that sort of thing matters to you.

Haute Pockets I like really well, as far as function goes. My two big complaints: they are super-bulky in the front and they are made in China.

Bumgenius OS are pretty good. They do fit well, and hold in poop the best. But, I HATE cleaning poop off of these. The elastic at the legs bunches too much and it's a PITA to get the poop out of the gathers. Also, I really don't like the flap over the pocket. I think it's useless and again, it makes cleaning poop more difficult. These diapers also seem to wick and smell more than others, which means I have to strip them more. I wonder if this has something to do w/ it being suedecloth instead of fleece? Oh, and they start to look worn out in just a few washes. In spite of all this, these actually are pretty good diapers and I still use them quite a bit.

Happy Heinys: BLECK! I just don't like these at all. I do love the way they fit, but man, you never know what you are going to get as far as performance. They leak, they feel soggy, they come unfastened, or they may work perfectly fine. I've tried all sorts of insert combos w/ these and I have yet to figure out what makes these work well.

So, there's my long opinions on pockets! Oh, FWIW, DD is long, lean, and a super heavy wetter.
