Hi,

I am shopping for birth pools right now, but there are so many different pools out there and it is so hard to decide....

I found two which look good to me and I like the way they are described. But of course they can describe a lot and I will only find out if it is true if I try it. I like the one pool, because it looks deep, like the water would not only reach to my hips, if that.... I like the idea of having deeper water. And the pool looks very stable, which is of course great.

But the other pool looks like I would have more room. It does not look that stable, but from a pic it is hard to say.

Do you girls have experience with any of these pools? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Here the two pools

I had narrowed it down to the same two pools (DH didn't trust the infamous "fishy pool"). A couple of factors that helped me decide on the La Bassine were:
1. The air tubes/sections are vertical which DH seemed to feel would be more stable and less likely to have problems.
2. The plastic/material was a bit thicker.
3. I think it's a bit deeper.
4. I don't think the BPIAB had internal handles and the La Bassine does.
5. The La Bassine is less expensive. I actually live about 10 miles from Waterbirth International and so I could have just picked up the pool (so wouldn't have to pay shipping) if we'd gone with the BPIAB but the shipping on the La Bassine was only $11 so even then it was still cheaper.

We haven't done a test run yet in terms of filling it but it's inflated and sitting in my family room. It's really sturdy (DH even tried sitting on the side and he's 250#) and I love the floor on it (inflated, soft yet solid). I'm glad we got it.

.

Actually the BPIAB is deeper... not sure exactly how much though! According to the websites the BPIAB is 26" *internally* while the La Bassine is 25" *externally* so it seems the BPIAB would be at least a few inches deeper. Also, while the BPIAB does not have internal handles it has external ones... I think I like the idea of external ones better but I really have no idea. I'm torn between these two as well but leaning towards the Bassine, but I like the idea of being able to go deeper with the water, or even if I don't having that much more of a wall buffer to keep the water from spilling (we are still recovering from water damage we had in Feb that has really set us *way* back in getting ready for baby plans so I'm terrified of water spilling over the sides!). I so wish I could just check these out in person!

It's good to know your hubby can sit on the side without it squishing though, helps with my confidence in La Bassine (we've had a few different inflatable kiddie pools over the years and they always depress when even my wee little kiddums are just climbing over the sides to get in and out so it's hard for me to envision them supporting me -not something I want to be stressed about during labor).

The key to having a rock-solid inflatable pool is using an ELECTRIC air pump to inflate it.

BPIAB says it's 26" internally but 23" water depth. So they're probably not *too* different water-depth wise. I don't remember if anyone has posted that they've actually used the BPIAB. I like the idea that it's phthalate-free, but the handle positions also confuse me, and the price of course isn't a bargain considering what else there is.
